Text-based RPG
Years ago, a friend of mine was playing a text based rpg, and I thought it could be a little fun. I thought I remembered he played it on Steam, but he must have linked it onto steam to play it off of cause I can't find it anywhere on here or on google. Since then I just bought Shadow Tactics on here to tide me off in the meantime.

I've tried looking online for some but I find mostly choose your own adventure style ones. Basically read a bunch and pick a choice. I'm looking for one that is more like Sheldon played on The Big Bang. You are approached by an orc, what do you do? Hit orc with axe. Gain experience. Medieval world (swords & magic), is what I want. I don't mind images of the monster, but want it simple. His was like a dos looking game, black screen, white text. You approach a town, there is a pub, church and thieves guild, where do you want to go, type thing.

Do ones this simplistic still exist? Or did they ever. I lost touch with the friend and can't ask. TY

Yes they've existed for some time now with Zork being the most well known and early forms.

Though I have not tried it:

And if you are interested in a text based MMO

That is a good one. MMO ones are called MUDS (Multi-User Dungeons). I used to play that one a long time ago. I recall it being fun.

The best text-based game I've played was the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. it was interesting because of how unusual it was. it might not be your medieval adventure but it is still worth a look.
