Gtx 295 built in sli wavy lines in screen?
So I put this card in and when I play certain games lines apear in my monitor, but only on certain games. Is it my monitor or card? Can I fix it? Also I have to use a dvi to vga adapter because my monitor is only vga and pretty old and my gcard is only dvi. Thanks!

So on hwmonitor where will this stuff be?

I would say your monitor is having trouble displaying what that GTX 295 is putting out. I use to own a GTX 295 and it's a bad a** card except for it not supporting DX11 it worked just as good for me as my 2 GTX 580's that I have now gaming wise anyway. but you should look into getting a better monitor for that card and i think your problem will be solved, do you have anyone that can loan you a monitor just to test?

is your power supply atleast 800w?

run hwmonitor and see if the 12v rail is dropping below 11.5v when gaming
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

if it goes below 11.5v you need a bigger power supply

gtx295 is 290w each
2 in sli = almost 600w just for the gpus
add about 200-250w for the rest of the system and youll need over a 800w psu

Could be the monitor, if its as old as you suggest it is may not be able to handle it anymore.
Wavy lines are generally an indication of a poor analog signal to the monitor. Try a different adapter or cable.

if it was a poor cable or signal, it would do that all the time, not just during games
if the psu is too weak, the gpu would be starving for power and put out poor signal

Not necessarily. If the system is getting stressed and putting out intense noise signals that could interfere with the analog signals through the system, the waves could appear.

should look similar to this

hwmonitor has 3 columns, value (current reading), min and max

Well I get a value of 8.64 same with minimum and max
So have you got 2x GTX295's (quad SLI)? I used to have a pair of these and needed a beefy Enermax Galaxy PSU (i think it was 1050-1100 watt with 90 amps on 12v).
8.64 on your 12v rail is dangerously low, if you are using 2x 295's, pull one out until you can upgrade the PSU, i wouldn't be surprised if your existing PSU is damaged.

PS: check you PSU is single/multi-rail, my Galaxy was 5 rail and had to balance 2 rails per 295

no I only have one dual gtx 295. I think my psu is 750w. how do I check the rails? how do I know if it's damaged?
Have a look at the voltage monitor in bios, test the pci-e cables with a voltmeter (20vdc setting) or get hold of a dedicated psu tester from maplin.
The 12v should read very near to 12v (11.9 to 12.1) if you've got around 8v, that is seriously low.
