Can anyone recommend a gaming headset?
Budget is $65. I may be able to stretch that to $100 depending onf features.
I will be using them for gaming (MMOs) music and movies.
Currently have a 2.1 speaker set up and with a Logitech H150 headset.

What I have to have:
Comfortable and completely over the ears.
Blocks outside noise (as much as possible).
Good stereo.
Decent bass.
Good mic with really good noise cancelling (current mic picks up game noises).

What I would like:
USB (highest on the list.)
5.1 surround sound.
Wireless (lowest on the list.)

I am using on-board audio. My wife will be playing in the same room (and game) using the H150.

I have to buy it form Fry's Electronics ($50 gift card + $15 prepaid visa rebate card).
http://www.frys.com/

I have been reading review for the last two says trying to find one. I can't keep up with them all and most have one feature, then are terrible on another.

Thanks for any help.

Well, even if you just compare the specs, the Vengeance's drivers win hands down.

Not to mention, Creative is throwing in a lot of extras for $40 less than Corsair can. That has to make you suspicious.

Always suspicious. That is why I have such a hard time finding hardware and read so many reviews.

As for direct comparison of specs, I found this to be helpfull:

If you're only using stereo PC speakers, you can just leave the headset in a front jack and toggle it through software. On some devices, there's also ways of repurposing the jacks you arent using through registry edits: http://www.reaper-x.com/2012/02/13/how-to-remap-retasking-realtek-onboard-jacks-ports/

Haven't compleatly decided yet. Have to save for a build before I can decide on the speakers. Current PC speakers are http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/231?crid=409

We want to get atleast a 5.1 system at some point. Still up in the air.

Monoprice.com has cheap sound monitor speakers that are pretty close to the entry level stuff you'd get from Behringer. It's a good start to a small setup and definitely better than those "theater in a box" toys.

Hehe, I love monoprice.

My speaker system was free when my brother in-law upgraded, so I can't realy complain.

Leaning more towards the 1500 now. Still a few days to decide, and if they don't have it at the store in a good condidtion, non-returned box, I may just order it.

Lots of time to decide though.

Thanks again.

Haha I actually have Monoprice speakers. I never thought I'd hear so much bass without a subwoofer. I just need to get a proper receiver to bring out their full potential.

I recently bought the Plantronics Gamcom 780, so far I'm loving them. It's a nice set for a resonable price, I just wanted something to use when there's two people in the office and I want to drown out the noise. But it comes with 7.1 surround sound and a pretty nice mic arm (it works well too), and is comfortable and sturdy. It's also USB. For 65 bucks its a pretty nice set.

That is a possibility. The 1500 seems to have better compatability with games though. The GameCom 780 reviews mentioned something about about Direct Sound issues. I'll have to look into it more.

Thanks for the suggestion!

So far I have 3 possibilites that stand out. I'll list them in the order I would buy if given a choice:

Corsair Vengeance 1500
Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha
GameCom 780

I think I'll rest and do research tomarrow. Brain is starting to hurt. :-P

Most gaming headsets out there are fairly overpriced for something that is hardly any better. I bought some MS Lifechat LX-3000s for about $30 and they have worked fine for almost a year of gaming.

Avoid the Gamecon 780s like the plague. Bought my girlfriend a pair for christmas and they snapped right above the cup after only 2 months. They werent abused I dont even think they ever got dropped once in that period. Their overall design is terrible and again they're just another stereo set emulating 5.1/7.1. I got her a Coolermaster Sirius set to replace them and honestly Im jealous of it. Its an actual 5.1 set with great sound and an excellent mic. The control puck it comes with is awesome and can change the volume of each individual channel on the fly which is great for going from game to game. They're probably one of the largest sets Ive ever come across but they're rediculously comfy even for long periods of play.

They were 130$ when I bought then but now I see that newegg has them for 65$[www.newegg.com] which is a complete steal of a deal.
