Crysis
serious performance drops and freezes in crysis 1 final chapter
radeon hd 7970 (added to prebuilt system)
seasonic 650 x series (added)
8gb ram (whatever came with prebuilt dell)
intel i7 2600 (prebuilt)
win 7x64

i noticed some passing performance drops around mid game but up until this final chapter ive played the game on 1900x1080 with high settings
the frames were getting BAD but i kept playing until it froze. i brought up real temp and started crysis again. after the game froze again i checked real temp and they got as bad as 81c. i think this is bad, right?
i knocked down the settings to 1600x900 on medium settings. i even put shadows on low settings. still drops in frames and the eventual freeze. temp high was 79c.
im not sure if this is crysis or what. it could be this part of the game is just resource intensive, but.. really? it may take a few days of playing other games to be sure but not really wanting to put hours into some high performance game i dont feel like playing.
could it be my computer over heating in general? if so what is the best way to solve this?
thanx for reading. plz help.

i just played borderlands 2 for over an hour and real temp reads up to 80c maximum temp so i guess this is normal for me. no performance issues at all. this mean it is crysis?

Common problem with that game. I could not complete the final level / map or whatever you call it due to crashing and horrible performance. Forcing dx9 fixed everything.

- Open steam
- Right click Crysis, select properties
- Click 'set launch options' button and add -dx9

Done & done.

Anti aliasing is one of Crysis' biggest enemies since medium-high values can cause the game to malfunction. It is said that AA isn't even necessary because the standalone game itself is gorgeous and detailed. And because there is so much going on in the final chapter, your GPU is being overhauled trying to render everything while maintaining crisp images and keep the physics in check all at once. You could try turning off AA or leave it no higher than x4; otherwise you could just set it to run in DX9 like BDK said.

Oh, did I forget to mention that motion blur is a contributing factor to FPS drops too? WIth all the explosions going on you'll constantly be experiencing motion blues.

had AA off the whole time. if this dx9 fix doesnt work ill turn down motion blur as well.

btw is adding -dx9 just set the game to dx9? do i just add -dx10 to set it back?

Is the final chapter the flying one? I get a crash everytime when i am flying back to the carrier and then boom the thing stops working and chucks me to desktop. Nevermind the fact that whenever i try and change a setting it also crashes to desktop! Alienware m17x, Radeon HD7970 gfx and 16MB ram and i went and put windows 8 on this.

it is not the flying one. do you have the latest drivers for your 7970? could be win8 i hear that is a big issue with some games.

Last level of Crysis just crashes all the time. I had multiple crashes when I was approaching the carrier in the VLAT, and issues while on the carrier itself where I would clip through the floor and be unable to return to the deck. I just brute-forced my way through that by quitting and relaunching the game (had to do it several times before it worked). Shame, because the beginning of the game runs flawlessly (and isn't as badly optimised as people make it out to be).

a good solution would be never to use amd

the game usea alot of vram i have a 7770 and i set all to very high but shaders in high and motion blur off just because i dont like it running it in 1080p 2x AA i get about 45-75 fps... i have finish the game few times with that same setup testing new drivers and stuff and just works perfect for me

I have had the same issues. Basically this is just a buggy game that runs terribly. I have a beefy machine and have no problems with newer titles.
I quit the game after it crashed several times on the flying level. Watched the ending on youtube and vowed to ignore Crysis games from here on in! Shame

yeah crysis does that, disable avg or whatever virus program you use and it wont crash while twicking your settings then exit the game and enable your avg again and the settings should be set to what you wanted them on. Btw I recommend disconecting your internet while doing so just in case.

yeah my pc beats all the crysis specs but it runs like crap even on medium, but I can run skyrim with all settings on ultra and high while maintaining a decent fps rate. Don't believe me look at all my screenshots.

you know I never tried that and also I think direct x 10 was always on too, next time I try to run crysis again I'll try that, my specs are phenom 9600 2.31 ghz quadcore, 3 gbs ddr2, 3gbs virtual ram, hd radeon 6670 1 gb ddr2 800mhz gpu speed. btw recommended crysis cpu is 2.2 ghz duel core so no reason why I can't run it on high.
