Windows 11 free upgrade
I have Windows 10 and in the updates I have the choice to upgrade to Windows 11 for free. Do you know if this is a good idea for gaming? All of my games, including old ones for windows 7 work fine.

Also, I think support for Windows 10 ends in 2025 so will the offer expire by then?

My specs are: i5-9600K @ 3.70GHz 6 cores, 32GB Ram, RTX 2070 8GB, 3 SSD drives.

it is! win 11 runs like a dream on my amd-pc.
byebye
Win11 is perfect - ignore anyone that says anything bad about it, they are ALL liars.
"Don't fix it if it ain't broke."

Doesn't really apply to Microsoft Windows, which is broken abomination in any version, but
if you're not having any problems that are figuratively driving you up the wall, I wouldn't
suggest switching.

I currently have a Windows-10 and a Windows-11 machine running(*), both just for Steam,
and with respect to the games (on machines that can handle the OS's and games
resource-wise,) in my opinion it's more of being "different" rather than "better" so
I wouldn't mess with it unless you're trying to fix something.

On the other hand, the TOS on Windows-11 is newer and probably worse, and even
if it isn't, you're likely to be agreeing to a different TOS with every different copy, a
TOS you haven't sign before. So why agree to more Terms of Service and other
agreements than you've already agreed to if you don't need to.

* - In addition to the Windows-7 machine, the XP machine, the Unix machine, and the Linux machine - although none of the ones listed in this footnote are for Steam games, or at least, not new Steam games that aren't already on my Pre-Windows-10 machine(s).

What would even be the point to doing so?
I don't understand people even asking these kinds of questions.
Win11 is utter trash.
Win10 is supported til 2028
Just make sure you are using UEFI, have TPM 2.0, and run Secure Boot on a GPT partitioned disk drive.
Not that I care about win 11, still hate many things about it, most of it is UI, but it runs just as good as windows 10 runs, Even the game bar if thats something you use seems to work better on win 11, Nothing different performance wise I've noticed between the 2 OS's, but Windows 11 will use a little bit more memory, it just has more things running.

I'd say if get yourself an iso, it free from Microsoft, and just run a win 11 in a Virtual machine just to see if its something you want to move to right now, of course games wont run well on a VM but you can play with the settings and the UI and stuff, if you are ok with it, upgrade to it.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I will wait for a year worth of updates and see what happens.
personally i think 11 runs a little better my wife is still on win10 and i use her computer
here and there.could it be due to the fact shes got a 9900k and im on a 13900k i
kinda doubt that but possible i suppose.but i have zero issues with games old and new.
i say move onto win11 i was a hold out on win7 for a while and once i switched to win10
i realized what an idiot i was being 10 was far superior.the bugs as far as im concerned
have been dealt with.and to those with e-cores its a must.

Who the F are you?
Your knowledge about software and hardware according to your comments equals ZERO so what is wrong with you?
do it to get the key, at least

10 will be discontinued

and if they stay true to form

11 will eventually cost

you can always revert it back after and be ready for when it is time to move
No one is going to tell you, you have to discover it for yourself. Your hardware, installed software and interactions with your computer make you different from anyone on the outside telling you to update or stay put.

I could tell you Windows 11 runs fine on my computer. But that in no way guarantees it'll run fine on yours.

Give it a try if you want, and if you don't care for it, roll back. Windows 11 is software, not some visceral thing stuck to your machine. :steamhappy:
Image the Windows 10 beforehand then upgrade to 11. That way you can test it for longer than 10 days & use the image to go back if needed.
