The soundonaound review should mention some alternatives https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/beyerdynamic-dt-700-pro-x-dt-900-pro-x
Difficult to decide between these two, I think I order both and see which one I like more and sent one back
Despite that, you know what I keep going back to for gaming? The V-Moda Crossfade. I highly recommend these, and they are built like a tank. Great bass, bluetooth options and more importantly you can slap a boom mic adapter onto it if you need it.
Open back headphone do provide a larger sound stage however, great for virtual surround when paired with an external sound card/amp, highly recommended especially if you go with the Sennheiser HD600s. Also check out the HIFIMAN HE400SE which use a different technology in order to create sound. I have these as well, for the price and comfort level, they are amazing though sound does feel a little distant.
Going back to the V-Moda Crossfades, they are already on version 3. These have been so good, that I have managed to acquire about 4 different versions of this headset over the years, and they are still great to this very day. You can probably get a great deal on the Crossfade 2.

Buy a clip-on lapel Mic.
Very good combo. Better then any "headset w/ mic" that has ever existed
Red Dead Redemption 2, Stalker - you have patrician taste in games I'll give you that
I definitely check out the crossfade 2/3 , bluetooth is great to have i just hate the random unpairing
but might be bad drivers on Roccats part... about HD600 + amp, do you think its worth it to get a external soundcard just for that?
I have a soundblaster ZxR on my older rig, but it's more then 10 years old now and I'm not to keen to install it on my new computer which has an ok on-board soundcard.. Can you suggest a few good ones that pair well with either the crossfire/hd600/dt900 x
That's the nice thing about the Vmodas, they automatically switch to analog mode once you plug an audio cable into the audio jack. In bluetooth it will switch to whatever device is active at the time that it has connected to before.
As for the external sound card, the HD600 needs a bit more juice to drive the sound properly. Tbh, all these headsets can benefit from an external sound card, once you try one, its hard to go back, especially when they have a good virtual 7.1 surround toggle.
Its well worth the money, and you can use them for years regardless of headset or computer. You can ignore whatever onboard "sound" options a motherboard wants to charge you an arm and a leg for.
I use the Sennheiser GSX1000

There are other options out there, some that give even more control over the sound profile.
For example the Creative sound blaster series and Asus Xonar. Sennheiser does have a more affordable option as well, depending on budget (EPOS Audio GSX 300). All three can use software to tune the sound.

If on a budget, you can spend less than and/or around $300 right now, at least in the US, getting a V-moda crossfade wireless 2 and a EPOS Audio GSX 300/Creative x4 or GC7 via amazon.
I did pick up a Philips SHP9500 for around $55 around the same time, mated to my Onkyo AV, probably the best I have...
Yea, I was using Creative Sound Blaster ZxR for quite some time, but it also some times didn't produce that spectacular results and some times fiddling with the drivers wasn't too much fun and hard to find a good middle ground,
also the creative drivers were quite a bit wonky back in the day and to make the card work was a bit of a pain
This might have gotten better now,
On-board sound got really better in recent years that and the wonky drivers didn't made me miss the card too much..
however the GSX1000 as a driverless plug and play solution might be just the thing I'm looking for thanks for the replies and suggestions, I defo will try it out
I think it might have it, I have to check it when I'm at home, but I what does give the best results in case it's possible?
No hurries, I need to check if there is a optical output first, but you guys have been great help
