New Graphics Card and now won't boot up!! Help Please
I have a gateway DX 4870 running Windows 7 64bit. It has a PCI Express x16 slot and runs fine with a Radeon HD5450 in it. I got a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 and tried installing it and my computer want boot up into windows. I can't even get to the BIOS. After reading a lot I freshly installed windows, got thru all that and restarted. I installed new card and I get the same thing, no bootup, no safe mode. I tried putting in the old card and boom works fine. What the heck!!??? I need some help.

Also put the new card in a friends computer, and it worked fine. So new card is good.

This may sound silly but did you upgrade your video drivers with the new install? It could also be your power supply. Make sure you have enough power to run all your hardware and the new crad.

Normally when switching from AMD/ATI cards to Nvidia, you need to remove AMD drivers before swapping the cards. But if your computer does not even get to BIOS splash screen, could be not enough power.

I had that problem when trying to do just a mild video upgrade in an HP desktop from 2004. It would power up for about 3 seconds then shut off. After replacing its power supply with bigger one I discovered that the HP PSU could not even handle half of its 250 watt rating [new PSU was only drawing 125-130 watts max from wall outlet (Kill A Watt meter)].

Also can try RESET CMOS with the new GPU present. But yes ensure the current PSU is enough. You will want to then remove/uninstall any AMD GPU Drivers & Software prior to installing an NVIDIA GPU; or vice-versa.

I fail to see the point to go from one weak GPU to another weak GPU...?
Unless you don't use your PC to watch movies.

Take it out and reseat it a bunch of times. Sometimes they have to be in there perfectly to work.

I have a 520 watt power supply. All drives from past are gone. I tried the card in another computer and it worked fine. Still having this same issue. Also all drivers for chip set are up to date.

Try taking the card out and reseating it.. try it 20 times if you have to.. sometimes they have to be in just right.. try it without the screw in the bracket too.

bmac also has a good suggestion here...take it out and reseat it. I have also heard of taking a pencil eraser to the contacts just to "clean" them gently....good luck

EDIT...hope it is not the case but it is possible the card is bad...that would really suck but it is possible...but try the suggestions here first of course

With many newer (Windows 8 era) UEFI motherboards you have to turn off secure boot and turn on legacy hardware support in the BIOS while you still have the old card in and then you should be able to boot once you put the new video card in. I had to do this when upgrading my Acer Predator from the OEM GT630 that came in it to GTX 670 FTW.

It sounds like insufficient power supply.

Mine is Windows 7 64 bit. Minimmum power should be 400 watt, I have a brand new 520 watt installed. The new card works fine in a friends computer so I know the card is good. The changes in BIOS you are talking about, is not in my BIOS anywhere. I can't make any changes there to my gpu or onboard gpu.

OP can you please EXACTLY describe what happens and what you hear if anything when you push the power button after the nvidia card is installed and the boot fails ?...please be specific and have all details included.

The screen comes up to the black screen and shows GATEWAY across the screen. Press F12 for boot options or Del for BIOS. It beeps 1 time, about 10 secs later it beeps again and cuts off. I try hitting Delete as soon as it comes back on and it looks as if it's trying to do something different but then nothing happens.
