Assassin's Creed: Unity - will it run okay on 1GB of VRAM
Minimum specs require 2GB of VRAM,

I am golden for the rest of the requried specs, just my video card only has 1GB of VRAM.
Will I manage to get away with running the game - if I lower the video settings?

I don't particularly want to have to buy a new video card, nor do i have the money right now :/

Better chip is more important as huge RAM. It can by partially compensated from system RAM.

System will share some RAM with GPU if is needed - asuming you have a lot of it (6 or more). Though in most case the chip itself will choke faster as would come to that.

But AC Unity is so badly optimized that he will encounter milions of other issues before that.

No, it will not run ok.

GPU requirements:
Minimum: GTX 680 2GB or 7970 2GB
Recommended: GTX 780 or R290X

Any card with only 1GB on it is going to be less powerful than the minimum, and be barely playable.

Thanks for responses someone asked for my pc spec: Im at work right now so this just general.

16GB ram
Amd Raedon HD 6870

can't remember exact model of my CPU - AMD FX(something) but its quad core and a good speed. I'll check later.

I will upgrade my GPU at some point, as i know i will need to. but dont have the money right now - chrismtas presents to buy and crap.

Well I have no intention of buying a new PC for the sake of one game. I haven't any problems with AMD in the past, while im happy and have plans to upgrade my GPU and CPU at some point, I do not have a spare £600-£1000 to spend on a new rig. Guess I'll have to hold off on AC:U,
thanks for the help.

The 6870 is plenty of card to run this game. I have a pair of them, but I have been getting better preformance in this game with just one of them on. The fact that my motherboard only supports PCI-E 2.0 x8x2 instead of PCI-E 2.0 x16x2 means that I get beter preformance by only using one card in PCI-E 2.0x1x16. The game is having to move quite abit of data back and forth between RAM and VRAM, but I am not getting any stuttering issues and I have my settings where they use 850-950 MB of VRAM at any given time. I am using all of the settings one notch below the highest and with FXAA for antialiasing with a resolution of 1280x720.

While I can say for a fact that the 6870 will work fine for you, I have no idea about your processor. I am using an i7-2600k at stock speed on a PEG cooler to keep it around its optimal temprature. This game puts a pretty heavy load on it. Since the game was designed with the new generation consoles in mind there is some hope that it will run decently even on some of the lesser 8-core AMD processors. Good luck.,

BTW, I Just ordered me a R9 280X yesterday. I couldn't believe how much they have dropped in price since the 970s havce come out.

Well I'm running the game ok. Thanks, I have to run it on low textures, and gets a little bit laggy when there's a very large amount of NPCs but generally runs smoothy. Will have to play it through again though once I upgrade the GPU so i can enjoy the graphics.
