Computer shut down in the middle of bios update. Need help please.
I was updating the bios for my ASROCK Z87 PRO 4 motherboard, and I accidently shut off my computer while it was in the middle of updating... Now my computer will not boot up to the desktop anymore.

Please, how do I fix this? Please tell me my MOBO is not bricked now? O_o

I am not sure if it will help. The only thing I can suggest is to open up your case and remove the cmos battery for 1 minute, before putting it back in. The battery is flat and approx 2cm in diameter. And is often located near you video card. Good luck.

I'll try that and see if it works... Makes me think my mobo is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ if it needs that to fix it. O_o

The cmos battery, it is the big round silver thing, right?

Suggest you disconnect any dvd and hdd drives before installing the bios from the usb stick.

i agree topper harry.

also, i'm 'bothered' by this statement:
Now my computer will not boot up to the desktop anymore.
does this mean you BIOS setup is still there buy you can just go into windows?

if this is the case, go into BIOS, change date and time and click save and exit (or F10, if i'm not mistaken)

I took the cmos battery out for 3 min, then put it back in and tried running my computer again. But it did not work. :-(

Steps.
- Copy the bios file on to a usb stick.
- Switch off your PC.
- Disconnect the dvd drive and hard drives from the motherboard.
- Plug the usb stick with the bios into the motherboard back panel.
- Switch on your PC.
- Keep your fingers crossed.

This is the stupidest thing I have ever read.
Why should somebody shut the PC down while a Bios update is running over Windows?
Seriously, the most dangerous thing you can do to damage your computer.
You ♥♥♥♥♥♥ your Bios. You can try running the Bios update over USB stick.
No clue if it works though. Since your Bios is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in general I doubt that even that works.
You can also try putting a new Bios on your board.

Mate, I have no control if the power goes off for whatever reason. You act as if I turned it off myself.

I triedwhat that link suggested as well... Still not working. I think my MOBO is bricked now.

My MOBO is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ now, it happened and there is nothing I can do about it... All I can do is move on and maybe replace it. I feel angry, but there is no point in feeling that about something I no longer have control of. :-(

there maybe a way out of this and may involve lying.

if this is still under warranty, send it back.

or contact customer support and just say:
the motherboard won't boot to windows. i don't know what to do
and don't admit you did a failed bios update.

or if it out of warranty and you want to be as honest as possible, try reading this:
http://forums.tweaktown.com/asrock/55862-asrock-z87-pro4-internet-flash-bios-update-failed.html
1. Unplug power from the wall.
2. Wait for 1 minute
3. Set the BIOS switch to the B Position
4. Remove CMOS battery
5. Jumper CLRCMOS1 to pins 2-3 (Clear CMOS posiition)
6. Let the Motherboard sit this way for half an hour or overnight

Then -

1. Jumper CLRCMOS1 back to pins 1-2 (Default run position)
2. Insert the CMOS Battery
3. Connect the power cable
4. Keeping the BIOS at position B - start the Computer - Hopefully ......

You fuc*ed your Bios. You can try running the Bios update over USB stick.

But in your first post you said:

"I" accidently shut down my computer.
Sounds like you did it.

Yeah, I bumped the off switch by accident. As I said, I did not turn the thing off on purpose.
Sucks this happened, but how does one "accidently" bump the switch?

I keep my tower next to my desk (roughly 2 feet from me) and my power cords/power strip are all tucked behind the desk where you can't reach them without climbing on your hands and knees.....I can't "accidently" bump the power off on my computer unless I tried really, really hard.

Do you keep the tower right next to you on top of the desk? If so, what where you doing touching the computer while it was updating the BIOS? Curious minds want to know!
