Looks like reviews for otget models show high failure rate. I prefer wd
It was something like 379 cad. Enterprise grade drives in the same capacity are at least 50% more expensive.
Spec sheet says it is only rated for 2400 days a year. That may be the main drawback.
the cmr drives is what you want the smr drives makes you wanna pluck your hairs out if you use it for anything other then long term storage they are slugish in transfer speeds and i mean enjoy experiencing less then 1 mb transfer speed from my experience with them
why do smr drives exist they are cheaper to produce at higher capacity then cmr drives
also yeah. check if it's SMR or CMR. SMR drives are fine if you're just dumping stuff and rarely touching it, but trying to actually use one regularly? might as well store your files on a USB 2.0 potato
for that price though, if it's CMR and you're cool with spinning rust, it's kinda a steal. just pair it with a fast SSD and pretend your media hoard is NASA-tier data science
ALL DRIVES EVENTUALLY FAIL
If you need that much hard storage, look into a nas with redundancy.
But beware, Newegg is selling OEM bare drives. Seagate may not honor the warranty. Best Buy usually has the same price for a real retail version.
They are cost effective and generally "ok", but also too noisy for my setup.
If you've got a NAS in a living room area and noise levels are a factor go for the WD RED PLUS series.
I am actually running 3x Western Digital 20 TB Golds in raid 5. They can get noisy. My pc is in the living room, so it doesn't bother me when I sleep.
No sh*t, those are one of the most noisest WD drives together with the Ultrastars.
That seagate *should be more quiet then the golds, but nowhere close to Red Plus noise levels.
