I would not worry unless it starts to go over 85C.

And use V-sync with low requirements games so it wont run them with 400 fps and overheat.

Check you ambient tempreture. A graphics card temps would average around Ambient Temp+20C on idle.

dont worry til it goes 90+c under load
I am not sure about the Ti series, but I had a 980 FTW ACX 2.0 and the default BIOS would not allow the fans to even come on until the card reached 60 C which to me, is rediculous. So I just use MSI Afterburner with a custom fan profile only to keep my card much cooler, but that is up to you of course. The other good users here have given good advice also so good luck.

Those temps aren't hot for a 980 Ti.
Hmm LOL; not even hot at all.
65 - 75 *C is quite normal for higher-end performance GPUs.

I however, dislike relying on the GPUs Auto Fan profile setting for controlling GPU fan/temps. I prefer Auto for normal Windows usage; and Manual Fan % for Gaming.

Use latest version of MSI Afterburner + RiveTuner bundle from the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MSI AB website.
90c is the key to stay below as much as possible yes.
Just to add to the other great suggestions here, if you use MSI Afterburner and you do in fact have a superclocked version of the Ti, then you can "downclock" the card if you have no other choice if it actually gets too hot, but as stated here, your temps are fine.

I have the ASUS Geforce 980ti Strix DirectCUIII - never gets higher than 76c at full workload (with full cooling). It should be said that experiments has been made w "turbo-mode" at 1445mhz, but even then, it does not deviate a lot from that temperature.

At 980ti, overheating at normal use should definitely not be a problem. At an OC-model, even less so, because coolant materials and extra fans are in place, fans don´t even start under 60c... But hey, all cards are not exactly alike.
If you keep getting, like, 75celcius when playing mah-jong or "normal" games (I mean not Witcher3 etc), then you should take it back, something seems to be wrong...
Use the monitor software first, there you can follow the processes and what makes it so hot.

Good luck!:coffee:
