That isn't an upgrade, that is a brand new computer transformation.
I7 4790K, z97 gigabyte gaming 5, corsair 400D atx case. I suggest waiting out on the SSD, until the brand new M.2 64GB models get cheap. It will be way faster than SATA SSD, plus the motherboard fully supports M.2 SSDs.
only thing you can reuse is the gpu/psu
the 1g i7 is ahead of any amd fx cpu, only step forward would be a haswell i5/i7
4690k would be a huge step forward, and easily doable build without a psu/gpu for $600usd

or 4790k with no ssd
I haven't ever done any major work on my PC, just switching out graphics cards, power sources, and RAM. In light of this could you explain why I would need a new OS and drivers? In addition I did mention getting a new case.
Thank you very much! I'll start looking into these parts and how to install them very soon. If you have any advice or good sources for teaching a newbie how to do major overhaul such as this I would appreciate it.
odd and sd bays are oftne custom fit to the case
and reusing the case for a new mobo is difficult with oems, you will need to remap the front panel connector to work with the new mobo
(for hdd/power leds, and power/reset buttons)
The meanings of some of the abbreviations you are using elude me due to the fact I'm new to major computer overhauls. Could you explain some of them such as "odd", "mobo", and "oem"?
odd = optical disk drive, aka cd/dvd/bd
os = operating system, aka windows
led = lights
mobo = motherboard
Asus also has excellent motherboards aswell.
I'm starting to have a change of heart towards asus, since I just got the GA-J1900-d3v motherboard and it is the worse motherboard I've ever gotten from gigabyte!
