r9 380 power consumption
I am looking to purchase a r9 380, but I would like to know if my power supply is enough to run the card. I'm currently running a Gtx 750ti paired with an fx6300. My current psu is a Evga 500w 80+ certified unit. (excuse my grammar I am sleepy). Anyways, I do plan on keeping my cpu and I am not going to overclock any of my components. Will my power supply support the 380 without burning out?? If you need a link to the power supply here it is: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H33SFJU/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-2&pf_rd_r=17RHJHVS1AFJ776B2A1P&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2091268722&pf_rd_i=desktop

anyways, thanks for any help provided

first the fx6 will not be able to max the r9 380
better match would be a r9 270-280

r9 380 is a 200w gpu, will be on the limit of the evga 500w psu with the amd build
Never go cheap on a PSU. The one you have linked to here is not that bad, but I agree with "mystery man" above about it not being enough. You always want some headroom when choosing a PSU, for several reasons (inefficiency, other hardware not considered like fans or future add-ons, degradation over time, etc.).

If hardware is working hard to try to get the power from the PSU that is not there, then that hardware can suffer also, not just the PSU.

Another thing to consider is that the more you invest in a PSU now, the more you can save on your electric bills later...and then the PSU will pay for itself in the long run you see. I personally will always buy at LEAST a gold, and shoot for a platinum if possible.

Take care of your precious hardware. It all needs power to run, and the PSU is the most important part of any build, especially a gaming rig. If you have to ask if it will work or not without "burning out", then there is your answer. Good luck to you.

500W 80 Plus PSU is fine for a R9 380 and should be considered "minimum".

It has 190W TDP so that's how much power it needs. Will need more for overclock or crossfire.

It says 190W but it sucks only 160 :)

Edited my post to say 80 plus instead of 80 plus bronze since your EVGA 500W 80 Plus is good enough. There are also some 500W units that would be fine even uncertified but moving below 80 Plus Bronze or 80 Plus and you start not knowing what you might be getting in a "500W" unit aas it changes from brand to brand.

Suffice to say that your specific PSU is fine for it. The ideal minimum target for R9 380.

You should buy a better psu, Maybe a corsair, more than 600W for your video card

R9 380 is a far better option, or R9 270X even looks a lot better than R7 370.

With 2-3 SATA drives, 2-3 case fans and no overclocking I'm 100% sure your EVGA 500W 80 Plus PSU is enough and even has room to spare for some system upgrades or mild overclocks.

thanks man much love to you. Needed a simple answer like that
Did you end up getting the R9 380?
I'm Curious - I was running the 270 with my system on an 800watt supply and upgraded to the R9 380 myself but suffered a lot of shut downs until i disconnected my second monitors and removed my DVDRW from the power chain.
I eventually Picked up a Cougar CMX 1200watt supply and have no worries anymore.
I'd like to know if anyone else had issues with PSU's and the 380?
