better match would be a r9 270-280
r9 380 is a 200w gpu, will be on the limit of the evga 500w psu with the amd build
If hardware is working hard to try to get the power from the PSU that is not there, then that hardware can suffer also, not just the PSU.
Another thing to consider is that the more you invest in a PSU now, the more you can save on your electric bills later...and then the PSU will pay for itself in the long run you see. I personally will always buy at LEAST a gold, and shoot for a platinum if possible.
Take care of your precious hardware. It all needs power to run, and the PSU is the most important part of any build, especially a gaming rig. If you have to ask if it will work or not without "burning out", then there is your answer. Good luck to you.
thanks for informing me dude, but I already have the power supply. Guess I'll go with the r7 370 4gb
It has 190W TDP so that's how much power it needs. Will need more for overclock or crossfire.
Suffice to say that your specific PSU is fine for it. The ideal minimum target for R9 380.
im just going for the r7 370 4gb.
With 2-3 SATA drives, 2-3 case fans and no overclocking I'm 100% sure your EVGA 500W 80 Plus PSU is enough and even has room to spare for some system upgrades or mild overclocks.
thanks man much love to you. Needed a simple answer like that
I'm Curious - I was running the 270 with my system on an 800watt supply and upgraded to the R9 380 myself but suffered a lot of shut downs until i disconnected my second monitors and removed my DVDRW from the power chain.
I eventually Picked up a Cougar CMX 1200watt supply and have no worries anymore.
I'd like to know if anyone else had issues with PSU's and the 380?
i ended up getting a 960 windforce edition
That is a bit much.
How many +12 volt rails did that 800 have ?
