Nvidia GT 620 vs Intel HD 4600
hi i wanted to ask this question but it seems like there could be conflicting answers about which card is more powerful.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/8930/discussions/0/530645446320340675/

this user says that the gt620 is more powerful then the hd4600. he also says that my i74770 3.4 ghz has 4 cores but dxdiag lists 8 cores.

toms hardware, reddit, and the internet makes it very clear that the hd4600 is the better card.

now, i admit, im not an expert on computer hardware or that i can even claim to know how to build my own pc but whats the word from other steam users. btw, the reason i have not bough a new videocard is because im just in the exploration stage of this hobby and not sure if i want to commit to it. but, would really appreciate an answer to which card is the more powerful one.

8 cores because the 4770 supports hyper threading. your better off getting the 750ti or the new 950.

HD 4600 is not graphics card, it's your CPU integrated graphics.
GT 620 is rubbish office PC card and no better then HD 4600.
Get yourself at least GTX 750 Ti for gaming, GTX 960 recommended.
GTX 960 needs better power supply if you have smaller then 500W power supply, GTX 750 Ti runs with 300W power supply.
If you can afford it get GTX 970 and 550-600W bronze or gold certified power supply and you can play pretty much any game with ultra settings on 1080p monitor.

in terms of mid priced cards, yes, i can afford up to 300-400 for graphics card but like i said above im not really sure if i want to get into gaming. so, in the meantime, while im exploring gaming, free non steam/and free/pay less graphic intensive games what would be the better card to explore with till i decide to pull the trigger on a gpu. i know this thread is starting to sound comical to hardcore gamers but i don't know how to say it any otherway. im exploring, and thats all im doing.

GTX 750 Ti, runs on 300W power supply, easy to install with no cables needed from power supply (make sure you connect your monitor to the card HDMI or DVI slot not to motherboard socket that uses CPU integrated graphics) and runs most games on high settings with 1080p monitor.

to explain, its like a birdwatcher buying a pair of 400 binoculars just to see if he likes bird watching. when the best thing to do is go to target and buy a pair of 20 dollar binocs. now it may seem comical to the bird watchers why a guy would only spend 20 dollars on a very cheap pair of binocs. but the person decides they dont like bird watching there only out 20 dollars. ya know?

This is pretty much cheapest I would go, other then that it's not that much better then your HD 4600.

$65 with $30 rebate deal.

Would still recommend GTX 750 Ti to get the taste how games really look like with better graphics card.

It would be pointless, basicly same performance range.

ok thanx guys. tbh, gaming doesn't seem to be my cup of tea. but, if later on in my exploration i change my mind, i will seek help.

Integraded graphics of the i7-4770 cpu (hd 4600) is much better than the gt 620. If you want better graphics get a gtx 750 ti, it's the cheapest and best performing gpu in that price range.

Or if you want you can try the evga step up program. Basically you can buy a cheap card by EVGA, use it for a while, and if it's not good enough for you, you can send it back within 90 days of purchase and replace it with a better one. You get full value back of the returned card towards the new card of your choice and you just pay the difference depending on what card you upgrade it to.

You can get like a cheap gt730 or gt740 and if you decide that you do want more power, you can upgrade them to a gtx750 or better.

Actually, i just checked, gt 640 only costs 40$ on evga site and it would be a noticeable upgrade from intel hd 4600.

the intel hd 4600 will be better at dx games, but the gt620 will be better at ogl games

with a $300+ budget, get an r9 290/x or r9 390/x or gtx970
and a quality 550+w power supply

HD 4600 will run just about any game you want on medium-low settings
