ASUS H81M-PLUS- good for an msi gtx 980 Ti gaming 6g and i7 4790k?
Is this motherboard good enough or should i invest in a motherboard such as the msi gaming 5 motherboard? I couldn't care about a motherboard as long as i'm getting the best out of my parts.

Do you already have the motherboard?

To get the most out of the 4790k, you'll want a Z97 motherboard. Doesn't need to be particularly high end, any Z97 board can handle or even overclock a 4790k.

I don't have the board at the moment. i was planning on getting the ASUS H81M-PLUS with an i7 4790k. At the moment i have a gtx 970, an amd fx 8350, and some gigabyte motherboard. I wanted to be under budget for my i7 4790k and my motherboard.

If going H81, B85 or H97, there isn't much point in getting a "K" CPU. The standard 4790 is a bit cheaper and would be better suited for those chipsets.

What will you be using the PC for? If its just gaming an i5 would be plenty. i7 offers little advantage over an i5 in most games.

For a gaming PC, these would be enough (links are in UK, but are on the US partpicker also)

gaming, stream, editing, all that jazz. I want the best experience possible, and it's why i want an i7 4790k. Which motherboard would be both cheap and get the most out of an i7 4790k and a gtx 980 Ti? I have a 970 currently but later on i will be upgrading to a 980 Ti.

If thats too expensive, consider getting a Xeon 1230v3 or 1231v3. Don't be fooled by the Xeon naming, they are i7s but without the onboard graphics and have a lower price tag.

You sure the Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3 will be best for my i7 4790k, gtx 970 and later on a gtx 980 Ti?

Would you also recomend a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO to cool my cpu? Or is the cooler that comes with the cpu enough?

I'd suggest getting a 212 EVO as you'll be pushing the CPU (editing and streaming are CPU intensive) and the CPU can run quite warm with the stock cooler. If its out of budget then don't worry about it too much.

Any Z97 motherboard should be ok for the 4790k. That one is better than any H81 board. You could even overclock a little if you wanted.

h81 boards are stripped down
cannot overclock k cpu, only z boards can overclock them
limited to 2 ram slots
pci-e x16 2.0 slot, very few support cfx or sli
few usb 3.0 ports, very few have usb 3.0 headers

there are cheapish z97 boards if you dont need sli or cfx
