Well, if the issue is in Windows, that's still an issue in software and not hardware.

I was basically reassuring the thread starter that having a memory leak does not equal a hardware issue with their new PC. Memory leaks are just software behaving as they were (unintentionally) programmed, not caused by faulty hardware.

correct, though in some cases the issue in in windows itself. when i got my massive memory leak in windows 10, i downgraded to an older build and the memory leak directly stopped.
then something else changed, not just the update

check what else was removed from startup or not running without the update

Restart vs shutdown the pc and see what the ram usage is. Shutdown doesn't clear the ram stuff vs restart.

Turn off windows fast start up and shut down your pc and start it again. On shut down windows writes your ram to your hard drive then loads it back up again on start up. Can also lead to issues persisting over reboots since the datas stored and continually reused.

Power and sleep settings/additional power settings/choose what the power buttons do and uncheck the box next to turn on fast startup.

Turn off superfetch. It preloads apps in anticipation of you opening them based on your user history. Press windows key and type services. Go to sysmain and disable and stop it. May as well disable and stop Connected User Experiences and Telemetry and Distributed Link Tracking Client.

Press windows key + x and click settings. Then go to privacy. Can turn lots of stuff off in there. In the list go to background apps. Turn stuff off but not windows defender or your gpu driver stuff.

Turn off prefetch in your web browser. It preloads webpages before you open them.

Press windows key + x and click on task manager. Go to the start up tab and disable stuff you don't want.

only the windows build was changed. i used the same software afterwards. shut down and restart is similar but, shut down does not restart the system, you have to restart it manually.

Cached memory is standby memory and is not noted in committed memory.

I'm aware of that, but that's not what I'm talking about.

You mentioned superfetch/prefetch or whatever and I figured that also went into cached memory as opposed to in use memory?
