Look no further then 8BITDO.

Check them out on their official site, Newegg, Amazon, etc.

They make good "PC Xbox" Compatible controllers with the Sony DS layout if you prefer that.

You want any PC controller to be seen as xbox compatible for best results. DO NOT buy an actual Sony controller if you intend to play alot on PC with it. Those always a real pain in the butt.

I suggest something that supports 2.4Ghz Wireless + BT + Wired USB. So you have choices. Plus if it has BT you can use it on a Phone / Tablet with ease as well. Avoid using BT on PC though. 8BITDO controllers that support 2.4Ghz Wireless comes with the 2.4Ghz USB dongle bundled with it already.

A good controller should support both DirectInput and Xinput.

8bitdo makes good ones.

Beyond that, I quite like the SteelSeries Stratus Duo, even though it's xinput only. It feels just right in the hands, and the D-pad is solid and non-wobbly.

Also, SCUF controllers are very well built, but they're expensive, and the iCue software is TERRIBLE.

I like the DualSense. I don't have problems playing on PC with Bluetooth.
Looked at 8bitdo stuff, looks good. have to check the specs and stuff and my comp to make sure i get right type but Huzzah so far.

Wouldn't Steam Input solve the issues though? That is for Steam games but adding all games as non-Steam games would be fine? Emulators would be of issue I guess but again, Steam Input might solve that. Or any other XInput converter, really.

Never had an issue with DS4 and Dualsense myself. Only dislike was Xbox prompts and that wasn't that much of an issue. Just took a little time getting used. Seeing XYAB actually helped when on someones else Xbox as I knew what button to press
after looking at 8Bitdo different PS type controllers
i think
8BitDo Pro 2 (Hall Effect Joystick)
is my best option as it says compatible with Steam.

I agree with this. the Hall Effect joysticks put it over a first party xbox or playstation controller by themselves. Don't waste your money on first party because of this alone. The last good first party controller was the wired x360 controller and they haven't made them for years.

Do not get a Sony, do not get any third-party crap, get an xBox One X controller because they are the most durable on the market.

This is complete nonsense. I've gone through 5 (yes, 5) Xbox one x controllers because the sticks are complete garbage even though all I've used them for has been sports games (Madden and PGA). I've had the same aftermarket "Gamesir G7" controller (that I paid $40CDN for) with hall effect sticks for well over a year now and zero issues.

I have gone through three Sony, 2 third-party Sony's in 4 years - my xBox 360 controller went 10 years and this xBox One X controller is now on 3 years - all the Sony's fell apart, the xBox 360 rubber analog cover fell off, the latter xBox controller still runs well and I bought it for 50% off but not to mention the xBox Elite Series II which I also got for 75% off but that one is only 1 year old - but now I use rubber caps on the analogs which helps the original rubber from not splitting and breaking apart - cost effective wise, xBox wins across the board - I rather pay once and not double or triple for other controllers over the course of 5-10 years ~ I am also not talking about casual, light-weight gaming either, this is thousands of hours of intense, hardcore gaming.

I have an 8BitDo Ultimate 2C with Hall Effect Joysticks and I can control the mouse cursor better with the DualSense.

If you make the deadzone too small on the DualSense, the cursor will drift. But if you make it too small on the 8BitDo, there is a noticeable skip before the cursor starts moving.

Not a problem out of the box, but if you're someone who likes to tinker with settings to get the best possible mouse movement, it is worth noting.

Xbox controllers are abominations.

Using a Switch controller that works for everything i played, even older games. It is called ZEN PRO. it is a bit expensive, but they sell them at Target stores and Walmart. I used to use LOGITECH F310 controllers, but i find they are cheaply made and wear out too fast. They only usually last about half a year. The ZEN PRO controller i am using is now 2 years old. It can even be used on pc with just pushing a button on it on the top of it.

You can see a example of it here:

https://www.amazon.com/GuliKit-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-Android/dp/B0C2KZCTKT

Here is the manufacturer's website for it:

https://www.gulikit.com/productinfo/925509.html

it supports both directimput and xinput.

The small joysticks never ever had joy drift on them, and are made with magnets supposedly stop joy stick drift. So far , 2 years later, it seems to work fine.

NOTE: Just played a game from 2001 and it worked fine with it. Im sure any new game it will work for also. The one gripe i have with it though is the buttons do not match on some of the games. I probably have to make so it shows the nintendo switch buttons map.

Compatible with PC, Switch, Android, Apple. Just press a button and it can change what your using it with. I use it mostly for PC myself.
