Fallout 4 - Windows Vista
Hey fellow players,

I just bought fallout and spent the night downloading to find out this morning that the game wasn't compatible with my OS (Windows vista 64 bits), at least that's what i understood about the error. Is there any way i can run it without having to buy a new OS ? :'/

Ps : I know "Vista is a virus, go dl W7". But my PC is older than most of LoL players and still running the latest games so far and i am too lazy to fight with him yet...

Just download Win10 for free and clean install it.
WTF you still on Vista? Nothing really works on that anymore, just like XP.

Windows Vista cannot use the free upgrade, only Windows 7 and 8.1

Basically... you're out of luck. The minimum requirement is Windows 7, as the store page says.

For obvious reasons, devs can't make the games work on every OS. Otherwise they'd still be spending time porting the game to Windows 2000 because someone happened to still be using it.

I haven't looked into it much, but perhaps Steam OS is an option.

Pretty sure Fallout 4 isnt compatible with SteamOS (natively). Theres no guarantee of playability.

Steam os is known to have problems running a long list of games and runs games much worse then windows just buy a cheap copy of Windows 7 and upgrade to 10

Now starts a painful era of darkness where i will have no other choice but go back to a social life and spend time with my girlfriend... You won Bethesda, are you happy ??!!!

Lol

If you still run Vista, i kinda doubt that your hardware is good enough to run Fallout 4 anyway.

Something wrong here with this...

Anyway, as the good Cathulhu said, you better make sure your other hardware is up to par for that game. It is quite intensive on hardware, and you probably need much more than just a new OS. Maybe a totally new computer or all new hardware also.

READ the store page requirements always, please. Thanks.

Also, you don't know if you can even run Windows 10 on that compuer, as in you maybe have not checked for drivers.

You can download Windows 10 for free and install it just fine without the upgrade. There are generic Windows 10 keys you can use when it prompts you for one. This works fine if you are ok with the "Activate Windows" watermark in the corner of your screen (which is not visible in full-screen games anyway).

Yes but OP would be going to W10 from Vista. Surely there are no drivers that support his hardware and Windows 10, correct ? Or at least maybe there are not but that is important to check first I would say.

LOL everyone can just download and install Win10; that is all...

Win10 should already have all your drivers, the only thing u really need to ensure is that your GPU is supported via latest Win10 AMD or NVIDIA Drivers.

No key is needed, u simply skip when asked. There is no watermark any longer in the later builds, such as 1511 (10586)

Maybe critical or highly recommended BIOS updates can be important to, perhaps ? Depending on hardware of course.

Some manufacturer's websites report that some computers are not supported with Windows 10.

Did u clean install it? I've done over 20 clean installed Win10 (1511) systems now via the latest Nov 2015 ISO and have yet to see the Watermark, and none of the machines are opt'ed into Windows Insider Program...... so IDK why you are seeing it

Anyways, hey post your full hardware specs and we can go from there, such as seeing if your system would be suitable for Win10.

To help ensure your specs, please do the following:
Post a CPUZ validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz > validate button > tick Extreme OC box > submit button
Your web browser will open, then copy the url (address) and paste it here to share your specs.
