i7 7700k to Intel Core i9-10900K

How much of a upgrade would this be ?

I know I need a new mobo.

The biggest upgrades is more cores and threads but unless you do things that actually utilise the extra cores and threads going for that CPU would be wasted. Not saying it's not worth the money. Just that if you won't take advantage of the higher core/threads money would be better spent of a different CPU

the sockets have the same number of pins, but different layout and chipsets making it not compatible with your current board

more cores/threads, will be a good improvement for games that need it
core performance is slightly better, but not by enough to justify the upgrade by itself

Potentially not much of an upgrade. Fps depends on the total system, not individual components.. In other words, for your own system config for the games you want to play, taking into consideration any other apps running in the background..

it would be a nice upgrade i went from a 6700k to a 9900k and its night and day
well worth it in my opinion.4cores doesnt cut it anymore (and yes that goes for gaming
as well)

10th gen uses LGA1200 socket. 7th uses LGA1151v1.
Completely different layout and pin count.

The 7700K for me was a very good CPU with OC capabilites. Its 4c/8t just limits its abilities for multithread applications. In singlecore performance the 7700K could hold onto the 10900K by its better OC capabilities

there are more cpu bottlenecks then 100% usage..
