is the cpu overclocked?
what cpu cooler?
Also Corsair power supply and cooler, the CPU can be overclocked but is not.
will not max a 4770k
unless there are some cpu intensive background tasks going on
Some motherboards have a safety shutdown for overheating pervention. Which sounds like your cause. However, just incase...
Shutting down can also comes down to the checking your PSU.
If it's crashing out, memory (graphic or system) or another hardware issue with one of the components, driver conflict, or bad software, then it will try attempt a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) and reboot the system.
Ensure you have installed the 'Microsoft Visual C++' Redistributable Packs successfully, such as...
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)
- I believe this is the one required by Skyrim:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555
You want to search the offical Microsoft Download Center for the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2012.
Install them in order from oldest to newest.
If your using 32 Bit OS, just get the (x86) which is the 32 bit version.
If your using 64 Bit OS, then look for both (x86) and (x64).
Why is this important? Well you only need to do it once, games will come with these bundles and install them itself before your first game. However, if they are corrupted, missing or skipped, some games can crash out or conflict with another version. Newer version should not overwrite older ones, as it depends on your games, older ones still sometimes use previous versions.
Rock up to the offical 'Geforce Experience' software:
http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience
Download the latest GeForce Drivers for your graphics card.
Scan your steam / game folder(s), apply optimal settings to 'Skyrim'.
For the GeForce GTX 770, optimal resolution should be set to 1080p (1920x1080) and you should be able to play those games at high to ultra settings smoothly. That's a beast of a graphics card, but is capped to screen resolution. Don't use higher screen resolutions such as 1440p, bottlenecking can occur, therefore it's not recommended.
The computer seems to just shut down, everything black. Then one second later it starts up as normal. I have the C++ 2005's (normal 2005 then 2005 x64 below it) and the 2010's 64 and 86, 64 then 86 below that.
Is it the screen just going black and the PC is still on, but just not responding? This is the graphic card drivers or game renderer crashing out - graphic card drivers should however be recovered by the OS.
Also, is it just that game affected? If it's the only game affected, then it's most likely software or drivers - not hardware.
Go to:
(Program Files -> Steam Folder) \steamapps\common\Skyrim\
Under the folder run:
VCRedist -> vcredist_x86.exe
DotNetFX -> dotnetfx35setup.exe
DirectX10 -> DXSETUP.exe
Go to this folder:
C:\users\ YOUR USER NAME \my documents\my games\skyrim\
and delete or rename these two files:
skyrim.ini
skyrimprefs.ini
Then right-click the game under steam and verify game files.
Ensure you have the latest Nvidia Geforce drivers from the site: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
Or via Geforce Experience.
Now restart your game and reset your graphics settings via Geforce Experience or ingame.
To me, it sounds most likely due to the renderer crashing.
This will ensure the files aren't corrupted or conflicting with something.
it sonds liek a bad mod in skyrim
