Monitor Suggestions?
What are some monitors I should look into to purchase? I need something that goes well with rtx 3060. I know it’s good for 1080p but I don’t want to limit myself, incase I ever upgrade components. I would possibly use a ps5 on it too. Should I go with 1080p, 1440p or 4k?

1440p is the sweet spot, imho. Looks better then 1080p, but doesn't have the performance hit of the 4k.

Main thing to look at is refresh rate and hz of the monitor. Those can determine how smooth a game runs, more so then resolution.

If are looking for on you can use with the PS5, may want to look into a monitor with built in speakers OR a TV that can be used as a monitor too.

There are also Ultrawide monitors that get you more screen. Downside is that not all games support them, so you may have black bars on the sides.

The 3060 may struggle to run certain games in 4k, so that's not recommended.

Yeah I was thinking about getting 1440p. What refresh rate should I aim for?

But doesn’t ps5 use 4k? And if I use pc can’t you lower resolution?

Sorry, response times and refresh rate/hz. I made a mistake there.

Response times, typically 1ms is best, but 5ms can work fine too and read reviews. Some are not really 1ms. Less is better.

Refresh rate, that depends on you. The higher FPS needs a better GPU. I like a steady 60 fps so a monitor with 60 hz refresh is fine for me. Mine goes to 75 and I always keep vsync on to prevent screen tearing. I also don't play many fast paced, FPS games, where higher fps would lead to a smoother experience. This one would be pure preference.

Yes, some PS5 games use 4k. Some simply scale up and are not true 4k, others have a changing resolution. Depends on the game.

It can playback 4K movies though.

Also, make sure the monitor or TV supports HDR10/HDR.

Idk anything about current consoles tbh lol.

Yes, of course you can lower the resolution, but if you have to do it for many games then what's the point of getting a 4k monitor, right?

That depends on what kind of games you play, and it's a personal thing. I think that 60hz is more than fine for single player games, but if you play competitive multiplayer games like CS, Rainbow Six, then 144hz will give you an advantage over other players that use 60hz.

I’ll probably get a 1440p monitor & I usually play online multiplayer games on pc, sometimes single player. Any specific monitor?

if you want the best picture quality then look into oled monitors
3060 owner. It depends on what games you want to play. If you are gonna be playing a lot of demanding games and don't want to have to bump the graphics setting down you should probably stick to 1080p.

sure, as long as you keep native resolutions:

  • 1080p 24" native ..or..
  • 1440p 27" native

  • 120 Hz or 144 Hz, everything above is overkill like 240 Hz,
good for Alien Eyes though xD

  • < 1 ms respond time
  • 100% DCI-P3 at least
  • DisplayPort 1.4 minimum, 2.x preferred
  • Minimum 500 cd/m²
  • No OLED screen to prevent burn-ins !!

  • 200~250 EUR

A RTX 3060 would run @ 30 fps on 4K at best.. so.. forget this.
4K needs at least a RTX 3070 Ti / 3080 / 3090 / 4070 / 4080 / 4090 ..

As much as I despise Dell- I have to say I am pretty happy with my older Dell S2716DG monitor.

Pretty expensive when they were new, buy you may be able to find NOS units at some electronics stores, or online.
144 Hz \ 1440p. VSync/GSync, 1ms response time.

Dell computers suck, IMHO, but their monitors aren't bad, and they have other less expensive models that would be fine for gaming, as long as you aren't trying to do pro e-sports stuff.

Just be sure you are looking at the S2716DG (NVIDIA VSync/GSync support for NVIDIA GPUs only) not the S2716DGR (AMD FreeSync support for AMD GPUs only).

I have a controversial opinion and think that 4K is the new sweet spot for two reasons:

1. 4K screens are excellent at handling lower resolutions with an almost non-existent non-native blur effect. In contrast, 1080p and 1440p monitors are basically stuck with a single resolution, as the non-native blur is close to unplayable.

2. DLSS/FSR and other upscaling solutions shine at 4K. You can upscale any resolution to 4K and adjust the performance.

I currently have the 7900XTX, so 4K is not a big deal, but I had a Radeon 5700XT before and had no problem with a 4K screen at all. 1440p still looks great. Many lighter games were working at 4K60 or even 4K120 (like Risk of Rain 2, Hades, etc.). If a game had FSR, then 4K was not a problem at all.

The only potential challenge is that even with DLSS, games at 4K need a bit more VRAM, but it's not a problem for the 3060 12GB.
