What is this used for exactly & why am i getting an error for it? it stared after an update from windows 10 - 11 , I still have internet , just curious what this can cause problems with. I tried updating drivers no luck ,deleted driver reinstalled from mobo site no luck.

If you still have Internet, I assume you are using a different network device like Wi-Fi or an external or PCIe Ethernet?

To fix that Intel Ethernet port try installing the latest drivers from the Intel website.

I'm using Ethernet no external , not wifi. I did try the drivers changed nothing. Would this effect gaming performance at all?

get the correct driver from the mobo mfg or oem site

Even though this might sound scary, you can go to Device Manager in Control Panel and go to the Network adapter section. You see the Intel Ethernet driver there, you right-click on that and select "Uninstall device." You then restart the computer and Windows is supposed to reinstall an older driver upon restart. I mean, if you already tried the newest driver, what else is there?

If you search this issue, you might come across someth. like this, where the poster ultimately went out and got a 10 dollar Ethernet adapter card. Hopefully this won't affect to you that extent.

what mobo?
if it has different rev, check that too some can use slightly different nic driver

z490 tomahawk , I have done the device manager uninstall , same thing it comes back with the same error after a reboot.

You might need to go directly to Intel for the driver, as 10th Gen is perhaps not fully supported by the motherboard manufacturer anymore.

gigabit is intel, 2.5g is realtek

So he's probably plugged into the 2.5 port and running just fine.
That said, only recently did I get a router that supports 2.5 and it only does so through a SFP cage so that was an additional $25.

then disable it, and use the realtek nic
