So Steam can't do Win-7 because Microsoft doesn't support Win-7 except Microsoft does...
So, Microsoft now owns Blizzard.

Steam is dumping Windows 7, allegedly in part: "because not even Microsoft supports it."

But I just reloaded my Blizzard loader, and it looks like my favorite Blizzard games, (maybe all the Blizzard games - not sure) still support Windows 7 and I didn't notice them announcing any cut-offs.

So what's with that?

Update January 9th, 2024: Hearthstone and Starcraft II still seem fine on Windows 7. No hint of any Windows-7 shutoff on either.

It’s almost as if it wasn’t going to stop working right away, just as people said many times… because it didn't happen for XP, Vista, etc.

-_-
which is why some moron was bangin on about how "they claim victory" and banging on about singing strong like its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ national anthem. what a fool
We've only been trying to tell people that the client still works on unsupported operating systems for the last year, and shocker, they didn't listen :steambored: Always the same threads popping up about how "Steam" is evil.

Wrong, I saw a guy who listened.

It appears Valve is working on a final update that supports Windows 7, as the latest beta has CEF version 109, the last version to support 7.

I admit that actually feel bad for you when you're telling the truth, making sense, and people don't listen.

But maybe you should also be annoyed at Steam because they wouldn't change that clear and ostentatious message and said "Windows 7 will stop working in <x> days" to "Windows 7 will now no longer be supported in <x> days."

If you're not frustrated in the way the Steam did that, you probably can't relate to how Windows 7 users felt when they were keep having the message sitting at the top of the client for roughly a year or so.

The two main Windows 7 machines under my desk have had Steam.exe renamed to something like Steam-do-use.exe because Windows 7 is now "unsupported" and despite their statement, there is still fear that they will eventually break the client like they did with XP.

So, Windows 7 is not only still running, but Steam is also providing updates? Certainly sound
like "Steam will stop working [12/31/23 or 1/1/24]" was just flat out not true, even the Steam
client displayed that ugly message/countdown to Windows 7 users since the message's activation.

Why would I be frustrated when I don't use Windows 7? Also even if Valve was clearer from the get-go, most of these people would've still been ranting all year. You certainly continued to rant after they changed it.

we don't have any frustration towards it because we don't use Windows ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 7! simple isn't it? i know. i will never have the frustration of this because i will never be using an OS so outdated that i'll have to see it, like windows 7. hell even Ubuntu doesn't go back that far. the oldest still supported is 14.04.

Why would I be frustrated
I thought the quoted message below was indicative of frustration with regard to people who "didn't listen."

Since you're answering a question with a question, I still don't know if you were ever frustrated with people who wouldn't listen about how Windows 7 would become unsupported or whatever by Steam at the cutoff date, rather than "stop working" as the Client indicated.

But maybe you're not frustrated with that. I only said "IF you're not frustrated"[emphasis added.]

You seem frustrated with people who wouldn't listen to you when you said you implied that Windows 7 wouldn't be shutoff on the date the client said it would. I don't think it's unreasonable to suspect that you might be given that Steam said one thing in the client while saying another thing on more a less ostentatious fashion.

Quoting your post more fully:

As a more direct answer, I think what I wrote above explains that type of frustration I thought you might be experiencing, and I don't see what you yourself using Windows 7 has to do with be frustrated with people who "wouldn't listen." So as far as I know you might have been frustrated with those people (perhaps including myself) even though you don't use Windows 7.

I hope this explanation helps.

Meanwhile Chrome is on v120 or 121

Which puts Win7 users behind by about 200 versions or so. Many years behind.

I suppose it's fine. I don't see the need to have Valve force Steam Client to stop working on Win7/8 and I suppose it's fine if a user had a need to keep running that OS for their Media PC and retro games.

Yes, I've heard that Steam's cutoff date has very little correlation to the when Chromium stopped supporting Windows 7.

Well Chrome stopped getting updates (in Win7/8) I believe at end of 2021 or 2022. So that's how old this CEF 109 is
