Plenty of info all right there.
Not that it really makes a difference, it's still based on Arch so basically any Arch distro can give the same and better results with SteamOS in its current state. Garuda Linux is the easiest (but with higher system resource cost due to performance optimizations taking up more RAM, and more bloat in the OS) because it's prepackaged with everything you'd need for gaming.
There is no need for it.
Just go do some research on Linux distros that are good for gaming.
Pay even closer attention to them if you are using NVIDIA GPU.
Then just go install a Linux distro and setup Steam + Proton.
Using my PC with the TV isn't an option as it's in a different room, and in-home streaming doesn't seem to work with HDR, even if it did the visual artifacts and latency would make it less than ideal.
I built a new PC recently, and the old parts I have lying around would run the TV just fine. I don't want to use Windows bc I want a console-like experience, and I don't want to use other Linux distros for the same reason. I know I could probably tinker around with one until it basically does what I want, but I do enough tinkering on my desktop, for this custom console I just want to slap an OS on it and play games. SteamOS is the PERFECT solution for me.
For now I'm just gonna try out HoloISO.
Setting Windows 11 up with auto-hdr and setting Steam to launch in Big Picture mode at launch and to launch on boot is pretty easy and will give you a console like experience most of the time.
Otherwise if you really want a Linux distro before Valve launches SteamOS for general availability then check out ChimeraOS. It is designed to be a console like experience and has installers for Steam as well as heroic and lutris for most of the major launcher/stores.
