What brands of motherboard have good BIOS chips?
I like to be able to control my setup.

For example, I often like to UNDERCLOCK the CPU
for reliability and less power consumption.

I'm guess that if I just go out and buy something, I'm
likely to not even have the option to pick a CPU speed?

Or will I?

Are there any good reasonably priced brands of motherboard
that you'd recommend?

Most brands will offer this, but it depends on the chipset and tier of the board you're buying more than brand.

I've only use Asus and MSI in recent times and both of them have nice BIOSes. The last time I used Gigabyte was too long ago, and tha last time I used AsRock was with a used and budget tier motherboard even further back so I can't comment much on those two today.
any not oem, dell, acer, hp etc
I always tend to go with GigaByte although I have had some Asus motherboards in the past as well but with most of the top motherboard makers they all have decent bios settings now days.

I have Aorus Z390 Master for a while. Also, I had two gigabyte motherboards in the past. Those are good motherboard.

I have the same motherboard, cracking board :spazwinky:
I use Aorus motherboards. Feature rich, great VRMs and the bios is easy and straightforward with tons of options.
Whatev motherboard you pick, try to get something that comes with POST led screen. It will make troubleshooting so much easier
Just do your due diligence and you will see that every manufacturer has their faults on some models. Personally I like ASRock, but again not all models are considered equal or even good in their line of series.
My favourite has been "American Megatrends" AMI BIOS.

DELL's own BIOS is also a powerful "tool" and can be very customized.

Microstar (MSI) BIOS was as great as AMI back in the days, today it is just bloated..

Control is good - but quality is better. It would be better to get something that gives high quality components over something that gives greater control..
VRM is especially important

I can't really comment on brands, since they all offer varying degree of quality for price
Why would you underclock it? They already do that on their own, through Bsee Clock and power saving settings/features. If you want to do that all you'd have to do is disable the Turbo and it would remain at the base clock or lower. CPUs when idle or power saving settings can dip down to around 1/4 or 1/8 (approx) of the Base Clock.

Aren’t they all variations on AMI BIOS these days? I’m pretty sure AMI bought Phoenix and Award years ago.
Avoid ASUS X670E boards, nothing but trouble with recent BIOS "patches".

I never had to do as many CMOS resets as with this mobo/cpu combo.

Good build quality but their firmware is absolute garbage.

Really really regret i bought from them, hell even asrock and gigabyte are better then crapsus these days.

Haha, Award and Phoenix.. really great golden days these have been ..!

Sadly I am not sure which companies got acquired by AMI over the course, but surely some of them. This is stuff which can be easily searched for via the web.

^^

oh man I want Award BIOS back.. really great memories..

I've been using a Gigabyte B450M Gaming board for a few years, now. Has a simple setup screen for safely tweaking cpu/memory/voltage, etc. Nice compact design, no complaints.

BIOS on ASUS boards are pretty good. Anything on the Apex or Maximus lines are top shelf stuff.

Zero complaints - been using them for over a decade since intel Z68 days.
I think asus and msi are pretty close to the best bios' overall.
