Even if they can read the audio correctly with a port only meant for audio out it would lack the ability to connect and use the mic part.
First of all plug it in another device. Phone, console or maybe a laptop as they often have audio and mic on a single jack. If it works fine then you need a splitter.
First suitable item I found for example
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone-Headset-Black-1M-3Ft/dp/B074N6XLHT/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=headphone%2Band%2Bmic%2B1%2Bto%2B2%2Bsplitter&qid=1598340604&refinements=p_72%3A419153031&rnid=419152031&s=electronics&sr=1-6&th=1
Im using the Y splitter it comes with. It has 2 audio cables, one with a goose neck boom mic and one with a mobile earbud like mic attached to the cable. The goose neck mic doesn't work but the other one does. Im plugging it into my front panel.
