I more than understand that Steam needs to discontinue Windows 7 support because Chrome is doing the same. Not a problem.

But I do have one problem. I have a select number of games that just refuse to run under Windows 10. So I have a really old computer (i7 875K) that I've been running Windows 7 on just for those games, if the mood strikes me.

So I'm wondering if Steam will lock a version of the client so that I can still run single player games that seem to freak out on Win 10? If not will we at least be able to hide any games that won't run?

I just played through RA2 and Yuri on Windows 10. You need community mods to get the game to work properly, but that is not a Windows 10 problem but a game problem. 10 just enforces standards.
Generally speaking the older the games are the more likely it is you need mods. And most of the time its because of broke games and not because of the OS. Like games enforcing the use of drive c: or requiring access to system folders they should not mess with.
With RA2 you are lucky as it does have an active online community that still plays competitive matches.

I would have replaced the fan on that laptop, and would most likely be still going strong.

Why would you use that when you can use C&nC client?

My old laptop had been overheating like crazy since updating to 10 but it turned out the Chrome browser had blacklisted the graphics device forcing everything to run on CPU. Not sure if Steam uses driver blacklists but Chrome and Edge do.

Personally I think people should just be able to use the machine and OS that they want to use and just play the games they bought despite the age of their device, their OS or their games.

Steam Support has no clue and I have no clue.
We don't know more than the announcement.

Yes, but if you have physical copy of the games, you have to search for community fixes. If the digital ones don't work, someone forgots to check compatibility Windiws XP service pack 3


I also have an issue with Drakan: Order of the Flame. The game starts and a few seconds later crashes. Without and with AiO Unofficial Patch
