(Answered) How do I split Corsair HX1200i stock CPU PSU cables?
Hi.
I have a Corsair HX1200i PSU and I'm planning on getting a CoolerMaster MasterCase H500m. The problem is that in order for the cable to fit into the hole for CPU cables, I have to split the cable into 2 and then pull it into the hole and connect it to the motherboard CPU connector. I'd like to know how to split the cable before I buy the case so I don't have to try to figure that out when switching case.

Not sure what you mean.

The PSU is modular so remove all the cables from it. If you can't put the motherboard connector through the hole from the back of the case to the motherboard do it the otherway. Connect the cable to the motherboard and then thread the smaller end through the hole and to the PSU.

I managed to split it using force and a piece of plastic.

1. I wasn't talking about the 24pin. There's no problems with that one.
2. I have not yet gotten the Coolermaster H500m. I was just preparing for it.
Yep, still zero clue what you are referring to, though I suspect you just damaged a very expensive psu (well cables) that you don't need, so, that's interesting.

The CPU cable can be split in two for motherboards which don't require an 8 pin. The connection still works and can be put back into an 8 pin so there's no damage done.

Sorry if this seems confusing. I would show a picture but steam discussions don't allow that.

Oh he's on about an eps cable, he's got one of the ones that is 2 4's connected but can be split for when you only need a 4 pin.

What hardware are you usi g that needs a 1200w psu and only a 4 pin eps?
he want to split the cable to get it to through the case, then combind it again
they are easy to split, most have a small clip holding the 4+4 together
line it up again and squeese the 4+4 to combine again

but the case should have a hole big enough for the 8pin connector without splitting it

if you are trying to put the psu cables in a tigher place, you can pull the connector off and pin it again

I was going to get a 1000 watt PSU but PCPartPicker thought the Corsair HX1000i wasn't SLI compatible so I got the HX1200i which was compatible. I later found out that the HX1000i was compatible so I got the HX1200i for no reason.

By the way, efficiency curves exist. I'm getting an AMD Ryzen 3700x(When it drops), Two 16GB 3200MHz RAM sticks(Giving me 32GB RAM and dual channel) and either a 3080 or 3080 Ti from MSI when those cards launch. I estimate that roughly 400 to 500 watts will be used so I will be at the best possible configuration

You would be fine with a 650w psu at less than half the cost, you'll pull around 400 to maybe 500w under heavy load and you'd need to run it like that for near a decade to make up the cost of a 1200w psu in efficency savings.

You need a monster of a system to even break 1000w.
As an example, my 2 systems, a 2080ti with a 9900k pulls around 450w under load from the wall, while my massively overclocked sli 1080ti with an i9 7900x rig pulls a max of 900w from the wall under heavy benchmarking.

Efficiency curves. That's why I got 1200 watts
Your miles outside it as I said (on a 1200w psu the ideal draw would be around 50-60% or 6-700w) and it makes all but zero difference to power bills, so it's just wasting a lot of money that is better spent elsewhere.

Many a man got in trouble just looking at the curves. Do the math, you're not going to your money back.
