Using a dell otpiplex 7010 with a intel i7 3770?

Ok I noticed there's tons of these on ebay for around $280 with 8 gigs ram , 1tb hard drive , and a i7 processor the only thing it lacks is a graphics card. Could I just buy one of these and slap a gtx 970 into it and have a decent gaming rig?

Depens on the motherboard in use. If it has a PCIe 16x slot, you're good to go. Most have one, but at low budget it's better to check first. Depending on the PSU in use, you might also need a new one since the dedicated GFX card will draw more power.

Ya, the motherboard should work with the gtx 970 and as for the power supply that show be a easy swap. Green ham gaming did a similar build but with a old xps and he got great frames on most current games so that's inspired me to wanna try it with a slightly nicer build but still cheap and affordable.

Very likely you'll need to replace the PSU before fiting a new GPU.

If you get one then make sure it is definitely an optiplex 7010 you are looking at and not a 7020. They are near identical.

7010 motherboard uses standard ATX connectors, you should be able replace the PSU on these.

7020 motherboard uses dell proprietary connectors, meaning the PSU cannot be replaced, limiting your choice of GPU.

You are looking at a tower model right? Not those small form factor ones as those won't fit any decent GPU.

Go to Dell.com/Support > enter your systems Service Code (it's on the Dell sticker on the system) and then go to Drivers/Downloads and update to the latest BIOS prior to any CPU/GPU changes.

You should be able to replace the PSU on that model, as all the 7010 uses the standard ATX 24pin connections of the motherboard, as opposed to proprietary on the newer models.

You'll need to replace the PSU anyway if you want to put a GTX 970 or any decent GPU in there. A decent quality 500w or higher should run a GTX 970.
