Quick Overclocking Question
Im using MSI afterburner to overclock my gtx 950 FTW a little bit further. I don't plan on raising the core voltage any but im wondering if or when i should raise the power limit. Do i raise it right off the bat or after my benchmark crashes. Also, I have a 600w power supply if that means anything.

if your talking about the "power limit 100" option in msi afterburner that is the percent tdp so raising it above 100% removes the tdp cap of 90w (its actually less than that) ive done this before using maxwell/kepler bios editor and modding the bios... it is required when the oc puts the card over tdp defaults

you can see max tdp utilization when gaming using gpu-z or maybe afterburner has it also if its over 100% utilization increasing it may help... it will be difficult to get a ftw card too much further than it is as they are high clocked cards

So any recomendation on what I should put it at then or should i just leave it as it is?

they have it at up to 1518mhz max turbo here with +11 so 111 power target % tdp you may need to increase vcore ever so slightly depending on the binning and how good your card can oc stable but thats your call

Well ive done a bit of research and have seen that people are able to get a +70MHz GPU offset and a +350MHz memory offset. Im going to go through the traditional way and do it myself just to see if i can get a bit higher than that.

yeah thats fine at the end of the day the power target just allows more wattage than max tdp for oc its not vcore increase the card they are running on the review reached 1500 max boost no vcore increase.. the max tdp is actually set below 90w (90000mw) in the bios my gtx 750 55w card in my spare computer was set at 38500mw (35w) stock same with my 970 not 145w

So it will be safe to increase my power % to 110?
Fluffy 24. mai 2016 kl. 15.44
no as long as you dont increase too much 110% is more than fine... increasing voltage can be unsafe especially if not properly cooled small amount of voltage is fine basically would be within nvidias voltage specs usually +5% but you only need voltage for large ocs not 70+mhz more like 200+mhz depending on card

Im personally not going to mess with voltage if i can help it. I might mess with it a bit when i overclock my CPU at somepoint as i have an aftermarket cooler on it, but not for my GPU. Thanks for all the help. Ill post my results once im done.

Well as of right now, I was able to get a stable overclock of +60MHz on the Core Clock and +500MHz on the Memory. Im a bit startled by the fact i was able to get the Memory up so high though as most others on the interent could only overclock to around 400MHz. But it seems to be stable at a Temp of 74c.

nice not too bad i kinda figured you couldnt get too much core wise on a ftw card without vcore increase but that ram oc is a good one

It gives my a 9fps boost in dirt rally and i didnt have any issues in that game but i had a bit of artifacting in dark souls so i dialed it back to +50 on the core and +450 on the memory and it seems to be doing better.

Just raise the Power Limit to the highest available and leave it; any good GPU should withstand running at that setting. However I noticed some GPUs u have to pick what u want to do more; Power Level % or OC the Core + Memory. Many are unstable when u try doing both.

I would just put Power % to 106 and leave it.

OC'ing the best you gonna see is maybe a few FPS more at best; something 10 FPS or less.
Especially on such a lower end GPU. If you need mower performance, buy a better single GPU.

Im only doing this for the fun of it. I dont need the performance boost at all. I need it more in my CPU but thats for another day.
