CPU Temperatures
I use HW Monitor but I'm not sure as to what I should be focusing on when it comes to monitoring my CPU's temp. As you all know, there are Cores: 0-3, and then there's one for "package." I'm just trying to watch the overall temp of my CPU and am wondering if the package temperature is what I should be paying attention to.

Thanks!

what cpu?

cores are the core temps, pkg is the overall chip temp

the mobo should have a tmpin0 that is the sensor under the cpu socket

Whoa. So I think I might've been reading my temps wrong for the past month. I don't overclock, so luckily, it's not a big deal.

Here's a screenshot I found on Google. http://cdn.canadiancontent.net/t/screenshot/750/open-hardware-monitor.jpg
I've been watching the bracket that says "Intel Core 2 Duo," and the subsequent temperatures for each core. So what I /should/ be watching is CPU temp under the motherboard bracket? Like where it says Gigabyte in the screenshot?

the socket temp will be around 5c cooler than the cores

if the cores are more than 5c apart from eachother, redo the thermal paste

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to only read the CPU temperature in Mobo bracket.

I'm looking at the core temps and they seem to run around 2-5 degrees apart, but nothing more. At the same time, the core temps fluctuate non-stop. Am I in the clear?

if its the stock cooler they will change fairly quick

what cpu is it, and what are the max load temps?

I use a liquid cooler: Corsair h100i. Idle temp for the CPU is 23-25. Some core temps change couple of times a second, sometimes less, while other core temps stay the same for a couple seconds at a time.

I'm using an i7 4770k. TCase is 72C, if that's what you're asking.

dont worry about the temps, h100i is overkill for the 4770k
(be sure to get the firmware updates for the pump)

your max load temp
the max on the cpu is around 90-100c before it will thermal throttle

Also the max temps for the cores as I watch them on HW Monitor are never more than a degree or two apart. So I think that's fairly safe since they're all near identical to one another.

Anyways, it's great to hear that I have nothing to be cautious of. I appreciate all your help these past months on the forum, _I_. Thanks again.
