GTX 660 SLI?
So I have a GTX 660 and I want to upgrade, and I thought about SLI-ing my ASUS GTX 660. What kind of CPU recommend for it? And the reason why I want to SLI it because I can get another 660 for about 100 bucks, which is damn cheap.

Thoughts and opinions?

What is your current setup? CPU, MOBO, PSU etc.

It would be better to get a new single GPU. Not all games support multiple GPUs.
GTX 960 is around that price now too; and it would easily beat 2x GTX 660 in SLI;
Don't buy old stuff, move on.

This plus SLI isn't really worth it tbh. I've had a few SLI rigs and most games either don't support it or you need to bugger around to get it to work. It's just a headache so last time I upgraded I went with a single 980ti rather than two 970's and I'm glad I did tbh.

I've had 6 different sets of cards that I ran in SLI and I've only ever experiened a handful of issues over the many years of using SLI.

Years ago, you sometimes had to fiddle with settings and test drivers more often for good SLI performance, but it still wasn't a very common thing.

Anyway, SLI is only good if you're matching up high end cards and you need the power to push a high resolution or high refresh rate. I wouldn't bother doing it with a mid-ranged card from 4 generations ago. As others have suggested, look at getting a GTX 960.
It's just pointless given the OPs GPU. Best bet is get rid that old GPU and buy a better single GPU. GTX 660 will struggle on 1080p games, especially newer ones. GTX 960 (even the 2GB) for the most part would run 1080p games just fine.
Sell the old GPU and buy a GTX 1060. That new GPU would beat the living crap out of GTX 660 SLI.
Buy a GTX 1060. It's not worth to upgrade to GTX 960. In fact, I upgraded from GTX 660 to GTX 960 and I regret it...

Meh, 128 memory bus? I don't want that, I'd rather have a 690.
The GTX 1060 has GTX 980 performance. I had a GTX 660 once and eventually moved up to a GTX 980. The difference is night and day.

My friend owns a 1060, he likes it, but I basically need to upgrade my whole PC, which costs a lot.

Then if it is that bad, why were you ever considering any SLI?

Whats the rest of your hardware specs? And OS?

Windows 10 64 bit
Core i3 2100
4GB 686MHZ RAM
ASUS P8H61-M LE mobo

And like I said, I want to upgrade the whole PC.

An i5-6500, GTX 1060, and 8 GB DDR4 RAM will be a nice upgrade.

I'm considering buying that CPU, but I'm afraid of bottlenecking. And I'd probably get more RAM, since I multitask a lot, and I mean A LOT. Well, we'll see about that GPU.
