Anyone try installing DOSBOX / Games using DOSBOX on the Steam Deck?

I'd imagine if that's possible many old games on GOg drm free would be playable?

I launched with the Heroic launcher rather than do the whole virtual directory mounting routine. But it works fine.

It's a good idea to have a minikeyboard instead of trying to use the onscreen keyboard for those "select episode" prompts. Not to mention if you want to edit the dosbox .conf files.

DOSBox is available on Flathub. Flathub is added by default as a package source to SteamOS.

If you want a more user friendly and graphical approach there are various launchers to which you can link your GoG account. The already mentioned Heroic, Minigalaxy and Lutris would be the major ones, these are all also available from Flathub.

You can also install ProtonUp-Qt, which will let you easily install Luxtorpeda or Boxtron (in addition to GE-Proton, which is why people would generally install ProtonUp-Qt) to be able to use native DOSBox as a normal Steam Play compatibility tool from within Steam. Luxtorpeda will let you use native engines for a bunch of games.

As I've said many times, the onscreen keyboard is a complete pain in the rear, and it's ridiculous that the OS opens text files with Vim by default, yet the pop up keyboard lacks ctrl and alt and esc and so forth.

Some genius thought people would need an emoji menu, but not them.

So have something like https://www.amazon.com/Rii-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Smartphones-Mac-Black/dp/B07T13GLY3 on hand.

Oh, I guess that got updated. Getting PolyMC set up and my instances imported and mods configured was quite a headache.
