My logitech mouse sneezed just now.
I'm not even joking. My mouse suddenly let out this loud sneeze-like sound and startled me badly.xD That's the first time any of my mouses have done this, I felt I had to share this just because it's really weird.xD

check the battery
Oh boy, i hope it didn't expand and a security Valve "sneezed".
If that is the case, the battery may in a state where it can turn rather ... explosive or burst into flames.
Just like those Samsung phones, remember that?
it depends on what mouse and battery type it has

aa/aaa lakaline may leak, but would not make any noise

lithium ion, should be sealed and have a release valve, that would make noise, but should also break its internal connections

lithium polymer, will be in a soft pack (some with hard case), that could puff and leak/hiss when its pack is punctured

It's logitech G603, and I realized that one of the batteries has leaked, it seems. So I took out the batteries and changed to an older wired mouse. Fortunately it was not my main mouse.

One of the batteries has leaked it seems, I wonder if something got fried as the mouse doesn't work anymore.
battery will not kill the mouse, more likely it would corrode a contact
put in new batteries, and spin them a few turns

ok.
I think you gave it the wrong cheese ...
Buy some contact cleaner and clean the contacts before using new batteries.
