Also, the 4000 series is around the corner. I'm holding out for the next iteration or maybe even the 5000 cards, depending on the price-to-performance ratio. $1000+ for stale gaming tech now is absurd unless you REALLY need a GPU today.
I paid $1700.00 AU and that same card today dropped just over another hundred.
FYI I got the Galax flavoured one and it is quite awesome.
A GPU is what it is worth to you.
If like myself my other card died then I was faced with a decision.
My cpu is the i9 900kf one and is devoid of onboard graphics to have seen myself last longer and wait further.
And for 3080, i think $1000 is fair price for good models.
I guess I haven't owned anything faster than a Asus RTX 2060 Super and that was hot and noisy enough, I dunno about a RTX 3080...
What I was trying to say is that it holds the same logic as giving an addicted alcoholic an alcoholic drink and expecting him not to drink it.
And I was also saying, do whatever you want. So long you can pay for it it is fine. Just make sure you can still pay rent, etc. That was what I was suggesting. I wasn't trying to blame you for anything.
I'm not sure how I got you and others up to that idea. I guess you're reading something I wasn't typing. I think people need to work on their self esteem. I mean, rereading it three times, I still don't see any form of attack or blaming in my comment.
All I did was trying to explain what happens to the market. Its not even the only consequence anyway. I mean we have seen this effect happen due to the whole mining business taking these cards and it is the very reason why the prices got inflated.
When a shop is temporary out of stock, it rarely raises the price.
MSRP is the price companies expect consumers to be willing to pay for a product (a sure sale price basically) Its a calculated thing, based on expectations and experiences.
Its like the default price tag for a new game. And this default can increase if they realize people pay more for it.
And you can laugh about how poor I am, but this can still happen. At the very least what will happen per sale is a slow down in price reduction. They need to have not sold anything for a while before they lower the price.
I don't know where people's cares lie on this anyway, but like I said, do whatever you want.
Also no, I don't want that card. Even at msrp, its too much for me ;p
and so I will likely skip on it all together. (I don't like nvidia anyway. Always gave me issues, that company brand.)
Also
yes, go walk and use a bicycle. I don't have a car either. Public transport ftw, less traffic jams, more people per square meter of vehicle. Safer roads.
Cars take too much space anyway. People don't usually think of the millions of others and larger, global consequences when they do stuff.
You show off enjoying having a car, others will get cars too, and suddenly the road to your house is a traffic jam every morning.
Sigh-
Its really hard to not think ahead and think more socially empathic for some. xd
Again, and summarized; I just said its a bad idea for reasons, but so long they can pay for their house its fine.
I just tried to explain why, etc.
Always ask what is it I need.
Example if you game at 1080 then even a GTX 1070 is capable.
If you game at 1440p then likely even a GTX 1080 or the RTX 2070 would be sufficient.
Personally I game at ultrawide 1440p and my previous card the RTX 2080 TI died.
So faced with an immediate problem ( my cpu is the i9900kf variety without onboard graphics ) I needed a GPU.
I waited and waited managing with an ever failing ever worsening card for 6 months.
I bit the bullet on what I believe is worth it.
That latter statement is what cuts through our lives what is it worth to you for the needs you have.
Many out there buy a RTX 3080 TI and game at 1080 p !
I am not questioning nor inferring why for that is a choice that I would not do.
Numerous benchmarks are available to help a decision based on what you can afford and need.
Overall my new card the RTX 3080 12gb version is for myself future proof enough.
What is it you need?
If you had to choose from:
3080 10g (320w) at $700 (USED in mining)
3080 12g (350w) at $600 (USED in regular gaming sessions)
4060 12g (~190-220w) at $550 (NEW; Raster. = 3080; RT = 3090 Ti)
Which one would you choose?
I think nvidia already thought about the state of the market post mining craze.
So we might have a more expensive 60 series but with almost double performance and less power usage?
Also they would be able to take some of the market from miners trying to sell used GPUs at MSRP?
When I bought my GPU a RTX 3080 was $500-$700 more expensive. I didn't think almost double the price equated to the 15-30fps difference in already great performance, and I personally like to tinker with graphics settings.
If the 4060 would be around $300-$500, I would get that, if I never got my 3070.
because that rewards miners even further.
like, shops should just not accept taking back cards used for mining in my opinion.
let alone the intensity at which mining cards run is far higher than what a gamer would do with it, so they likely last shorter than even gpus used for AI calculations. (life span wise)
