Who plays at what Hz?
I've mentioned that my preferred frame rate is as close to 125 as I can get it. I understand that the higher the frame rate, the smoother the image. I also understand that response times and mouse movements are far superior, allowing players to react better to dynamic situations.

Now, for a long time, 60 Hz was the norm. Nowadays, the highest possible are the better. Competitive players aim for 120-144hz. I am one of them, having realized my gaming experiences are better at 125 FPS, or as close as I get get to it. If I can play at 144 with classic games, I aim for it, too.

With that in mind, please enlighten me a little. What kind of gamers play at the following fps...

60
75
85
90
100

Higher is generally the better .... to a point.

It's not unlike resolution. Past a certain point either way it ceases to make any discernable difference to you. Also, as I think we've discussed before, it ain't just framerate but it has to match with your graphics card output generaly to perform best or you'll get screen tearing or other issues.

I don't know what you mean by "kind of gamers" though - there is only ONE type of gamer. Those who play games.

I will generally play a game at about as high as I can but it ain't the be all and end all. Half the time I don't even pay attention. I couldn't even tell you what most of the games play at.

I only ever go to adjust it if uit becomes a noticeable issue.

Just NEVER EVER get hung up on the numbers as they tend to lie to you. Or at least mislead you into thinking something better when it ain;t.

All you should focus on is ONE thing - does it work OK and is it something that doesn't cause an issue? Then it's fine.

I currently tend to max my frame rates to 60 or even 30 per second. I don't need more and the use of the graphics card goes WAY down that way.
I love me my current computer and I hope I can keep it a long time. So I really don't need more frames I don't even see.
I even enable VSync in Shooters like Call of Duty and I have no problems.

For example, what exactly would be the advantage to have more than 60 fps in Skyrim?
I don't see any advantage.
So I am nice to my computer instead.

even 75Hz is enough

75 or 144 has been the norm since around the time the GTX 7xx series came out.

Competitive players aim for 240Hz or higher.

I've been using 75, 144, and 165 based Displays for a long time now. Can't go back. Wouldn't want to.

30-60Hz gives me a headache within a short time. 144/165 never does; least not by itself.

And please, it's hard to explain but 60 FPS locked is still better on a modern 120+ Hz Display. 60Hz screen are never smooth no matter what you do or what settings you use.

I"ll be completely honest. Before 2015 I was on a 1080p 60Hz screen. Then I bought a 2560 x 1440 144Hz screen in 2015. In 2016 it was a 2560 x 1440 165Hz screen. In 2018 I went to an Ultrawide 3440 x 1440 120Hz screen.

Then in 2020, I started playing on my 4K TV which is only 60Hz. Everything is locked at 60Hz. And honestly, I personally haven't noticed much of a difference in smoothness from when I was playing at higher frames and higher FPS.

I still play some competitive shooters online, like Halo Infinite, and do pretty good. I have played the Battlefield series as well and I also did pretty good. I guess I would like to be at a higher refresh rate, but right now I am at 4K locked at 60 on 60Hz. I can overclock the TV to 75HZ, but I thought it made the picture quality not as good.

Eventually though, I will want to go back to a higher refresh rate. I am looking to be getting an OLED TV that is 120Hz. I just don't want to go back to a small PC monitor. I just found the brightness, contrast, and overall picture quality of the 4K TV to be much better than my smaller PC monitors. Just the refresh rate and response time isn't as good. But like I said, I haven't really noticed it, the FPS is locked and I find it smooth.

1440p 16:9 or 21:9 over anything 4K anyday.
Many games still struggle @ 4K natively running smoothly on PC.

I lock it at 60fps, use adaptive Vsync. Even with my 3070 Ti I have no trouble getting everything I play to run at a constant 60 fps. I like the higher fidelity, brightness and contrast of my 4K TV.

Eventually I will get a 120Hz display, but it will be 4K. I am not going back down. I am at 4K to stay. Eventually my next GPU will be able to do 4K/120 probably as good as my current GPU does 4K/60.

1440p 240Hz

Before I started playing at higher framerates, I used to think 60fps looked smooth as silk, now I can barely stand to look at it, it's like how 30fps used to look to me.

Same here . I will not go below 90Hz. Anything above 90Hz is fine for me but I am very reluctant to play at 60Hz.

I have a 1440p 165hz monitor but i run games at 100hz, sometimes even less. Mostly to limit the heat and noise. Specially during summer. Running a 400w gpu (3090) at full power all day generates a lot of heat.

And 100hz looks good enough to me.

75hz, but only because that's the refresh my monitor runs at. I'll lock it to 60 for the few games that require that for physics purposes, like Skyrim.

I play at 1440p/60Hz.
I just dont need more. Mainly because i dont play multiplayer games at all.
I also largely play Strategy, RPG, Simulation and similar genre that dont really profit from a higher hz display.

I tried a 120 hz display for a while and while its for sure nice i just dont need it for the kind of games i play.

So i take higher resolution + graphic settings over more FPS. As long as i can reach 60 FPS in every game i am happy.

absolutely higher fps will give you the smoothest gameplay 90+ is the lowest i wont
settle for anything less.lessens your gaming in my opinion,be it MP or single player
if your more into visuals then the janky 60's probably wont bother you personally
i cant stand it. I LIKE HEAD SHOTS !! this is why i run a 3090 @1440 i get the best
of both worlds high fps and ultra graphics.

(by visuals i mean games that dont have alot of action and accuracy and quick
movement arent that important)
