Anything like FRAPS for DX12/Vulkan? (NOT FOR VIDEO RECORDING, BY THE WAY)

I already know that there are much better options for recording video than FRAPS but there is a very useful tool that sets it apart from other recording softwares: The ability to benchmark games without the need of whatever game you're playing having its own benchmarking tool. This is done by FRAPS generating a .csv file where it writes the game's FPS every second on a single-column row until the player interrupts the recording process.

Anything like that for DX12 or have we truly lost one of the best benchmarking tools to technology marching on?

Just use MSI Afterburner + RivaTuner. Who would use Fraps, which isn't even free anymore.

That sounds like i should just be taking my phone's camera to my screen when trying to benchmark a game. What I want to do is press a button, play a game for a while, press that button again before exiting said game to open up excel to create a chart based on the file generated by the benchmarking tool.

It does all of that and much more. Sounds like you're out of the loop, and used to old methods. No one uses Fraps anymore.

Let me rephrase for him:

Most people don't use FRAPS anymore and haven't for quite some time because it's outdated, MSI Afterburner (which comes packaged with RivaTuner Statistics Server which you need for OSD) does everything that FRAPS does but better, and it works with DX12 and Vulkan.

MSI Afterburner is already a staple for gaming machines running Windows regardless, it's the most widely used software for GPU tweaking.

But Fraps isn't free.

Every app you'd ever need in WinOS or Linux tbat isn't for serious pro work stuff are all free apps. So with Fraps not being free, why bother
