Is 64GB of ram overkill for a gaming PC
The PC will be used exclusively for gaming and streaming. I have a seperate PC for any professional applications.

I'm currently running a pitiful 16GB 2,133mhz ( 2x 8gb )

Yes. 16gb is sweet spot. 32gb is to be at peace. 64gb is 2x overkill.

Yes, I would not go higher then 32 GB to be on the safe side with future releases, just very little point in 64 GB for gaming currently.

Yeah, 16GB-32GB is plenty
16GB is basically the current standard like 8GB was a few years ago, so the next standard will be 32GB in a couple years

So if that system is going to last you a while may as well go for 32 if able.

16gb is plenty. I recently upgraded to 32gb because I want to play modded minecraft sometimes (with a ton of mods) and not use virtual ram. xD + I know a lot of mods have memory leak issues, so in order to need to restart the game less it seemed like a good option.
32GB is exaggerated for most cases.
I mean even streaming and video / audio editting you probably have enough with 16GB.
You can do these things maybe at the same time (alt tabbing) and your chat window with 20GB, making windows go nuts in your modded minecraft client.

With 64GB, you can run multiple minecraft servers on the background while you play CS;GO, but idk why you'd need that much xDD. Overkill.

16gb is more than enough. Even 8gb is still good for most AAA games of nowadays.

16gb is plenty these days unless you are doing some really wonky games like Star Citizen, then opt for 32 gb.

Heck only time I ran out of RAM was doing an unoptimized rendering a 30,000x10,000 pixel image .

Definitely have to disagree with that
RAM is becoming more and more important, 8GB just isnt enough anymore these days

Opinions that's all most are saying.

I see 10 to 12gb in games like div 2 and fc5 then look at bl3 just using 1080p.

16gb is on the cusp with 8gb just being silly.

Yeah, 16GB is good, 8GB not so much these days depending on the game/settings.

64Go is the best :HentaiGirlLinda_like:

Maybe in 5 -8 years who knows.
But for now , imho, 64Gb purely for a gaming rig is somewhat akin to a blunt pencil. ie pointless .

The more the better, it will benefit the entire system as well.

If you have 16 gigs sticks and 4 slots why not if you have the cash I bought 2- 16 gigs sticks of G.Skill trident neo just in case I get the urge
