Ram for Ryzen 5900x ?
Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3466MHz C16 or 3600MHz C18 Which is best, i am getting 2x16gb, I currently have 4x8gb 3200MHz C16 but as i have realized it is not the AMD optimised version so i am sending back to change it.

Ideally you'll want 3800MHz with as low timings as you can afford

What about 4000MHz at C18 ? i could only afford 2x8gb if i got this though, would i be better going for that do you think ? cant seem to find any 3800 on scan or amazon.

Well 2x16 high frequency kits are expensive, so probably 3600c16, then overclock to 3800mhz or whatever is your infinity fabric capable of, should work if you add little voltage.

on Ryzen website it says it supports at most 3200MHz, so I'd see no benefit in more.

System Memory Specification
Up to 3200MHz
System Memory Type
DDR4

If going for 2x8, then look for patriot viper 4400mhz kit, it's kinda cheap and good binned,.you can probably do 3800/cl16 or 14 with that.

Ideally, you want the Ram to match the IF frequency at the lowest possible timings.

3600CL16 is the sweetspot but 3800/4000CL18 is going to give a little more performance without having to tweak the bios.

Too bad you have zero clue what that spec even means.

Infinity fabric supports up to 4000 MHz for Zen3 and 3800 for Zen2. There is a real benefit but it's not very noticeable in gaming performance, just raw CPU performance where FCLK matters.

3200 is effectively guaranteed support while going above that is up to the motherboard and RAM. AMD literally recommended 4000 MHz.

I highly recommend actually researching how AMD Ryzen works before you make yourself look silly again, just a recommendation.

So what would you recommend Escorve ?, i use only for gaming and my Mobo is Rog Strix X570-E

3,600 MHz (or, more particularly, the odd speed of 3,733 MHz) is what matches Zen 2 and I think, for now, Zen 3, as the Infinity Fabric is 1,800 MHz and most if not all (?) supposedly can do 1,866 MHz. AMD has claimed 2,000 MHz Infinity Fabric support for Zen 3 later/early next year (?) but not on release. I've no idea why personally, as this seems like something the CPU would just do or not do and not need anything from the BIOS and/or motherboard but it's what they've claimed.

If you want to be safe, 3,600 MHz (CL 16 or better) should be your absolute preferred minimum, and if you want to take advantage of more potential later, go for 4,000 MHz (CL 18 or better). Since you're going with/went with a Ryzen 9 and X570, I see no reason not to just get the 4,000 MHz stuff. If you're going to set D.O.C.P. (X.M.P.) and call it a day and not overclock it, then whatever has the lower timings at the same speed will be better. Your call if you go for 32 GB or 16 GB.

Do you recommend any particular brand ? i usually use corsair but i cant find any with those speed/timings most seem to be 3600/C18 or 3200/C16 there is a Corsair kit on scan uk but its Pre order they dont have it in stock, and thats 4000/C16 but no RGB, i would get this if it was available although i would prefer RGB.

Ok here are my options as it stands

Corsair Vengeance 4000MHz C16 2x8gb £164.48

Gskill Trident Z RGB 3600MHz C16 2x8gb £181.90

Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 3600MHz C18 2x16gb £129.98

Clearly the top 2 are better Speed/timing ration, but is it worth the extra doe ? vs getting the 2x16gb, i am moving more towards the Gskill as it is better and has the RGB, but the other 2 state they are AMD optimised and the Gskill dont, i would get the top one but the lack of RGB bothers me and it is not in stock at the moment as its new.

What would you peeps pick if it was you ?

I have now also found

Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 4000MHz C18 2x8gb £148.48

This is RGB and good Speed/Timings i think ? and RGB looks good ?

Can you find Patriot viper 4400mhz cl19? Those are best for the money, higher frequency kits are better binned so you can then just downclock to 3800mhz cl16 or cl14.

This basically, ideally you want to match the ram to the infinity fabric, I couldn't remember if that generally caps at 3800 or 4000MHz so took the safer bet.

As for the ram itself, patriot viper steel series is the best bet, 4000, 4133 and 4400MHz are all Samsung B-die, and even the 4400 cl19 only cost £110 ish per 2 8GB sticks, so take them and then set as fast as you can get away with matching your infinity fabric, you can then spend some time adjusting timings, I do t think they do them in 16GB sticks though, so depending on your mobo you may loose a bit of speed running 4 sticks for 32GB.

Sure, there's no rgb, but they are fast as hell and half the price of corsair / gskill etc.

I just swapped out my 2 year old corsair vengeance rgb Pro 3200MHz sticks for them last week to go into my updated build (and be watercooled).
