DualSense config problems
Okay, long story... I purchased AC: Valhalla through Epic Game Store. In order to use a controller, I now run it through Steam. I purchased a DualSense (PS5) controller and connected it to my PC. In Steam I set it up as "Generic Gamepad." All has been working fine. I have played about 50 hours of Valhalla using this controller running the game through Steam.

In reading the news today that Steam has added DualSense support, I identified and configured my DualSense controller as such (i.e. no longer a "Generic Gamepad"). Now, the controller no longer works with the game when I launch it from Steam.

Furthermore, I cannot disassociate the DualSense from my account. Every time I try this (via Settings-->Controller-->Controller Settings and clicking my account then "Deregister Account) I get stuck in a loop where it continually asks my to deregister my account from the controller. Every time I think it's done and restart my PC, Steam has again recognized the controller as a PS5 controller.

I would like to revert back to identifying this controller as a "Generic Gamepad" so that I can use it with the game. Is that solution completely lost now? Will Steam only ever recognize this DualSense controller as such? Do I have to buy a second controller now?

Usually they work in AC games regardless of game client. However in AC games I'm pretty sure you need to go to Options in-game and enable Game Controller before it can work.

In Steam you should always have the Generic controller box checked, not any others. In Big Picture Mode. As the XBO and DS4 boxes are for those two controllers specifically. For any other controller such as DS3, DS5, 360, Switch controllers, it's normal for them to use the Generic detection box and be seen that way. Overall the driver should dictate how a game or client sees what controller it really is and how it handles the configuration and all that.

Ok right yes I forget Steam had this now, long as user opts into Steam Beta in the client settings. DS5 should work just as well as DS4 when in Steam Beta Client.
Thank you for your suggestions. Confirming that I have, in fact, opted in to Steam Beta in the client settings.

AC: Valhalla settings do not contain any kind of "enable" option for controller. If a controller is detected, it will work. The problem at this point is that the game does not detect the controller now that it is identified by Steam as a PS5 DualSense controller.

I would like to revert back to Steam identifying this controller as a Generic Gamepad. The problem is that when I try to Deregister the controller from my account it does not work. It sticks me in a loop where the "Deregister" button is continually shown. Each time that I click it, the PS5 Controller briefly disappears from the list of controllers. But then it instantly reappears again. This happens over and over.

I have attempted to restart my PC so the DualSense is not on and not connected. But without the controller connected, there is no option present to Deregister it.
Just opt out of Steam Beta then and it should go back to being a generic controller again.

Overall, AC games use Uplay so it might be a setting issue within that Client as well.

UPDATE: I completely disassociated the DualSense from my PC. Removed it from my Bluetooth devices, etc. This apparently removed it from Steam's list of recognized controllers. I also opted out of the Steam Beta. Then I started from the beginning--connected the DualSense via Bluetooth, recognized it in Steam as "generic gamepad" and then went back through the calibration steps with all of the buttons. And now it's working fine again.

Thanks to those of you who helped with your advice. I appreciate it.
UPDATE: I guess Steam has now automatically applied the settings from the Beta. Sometime yesterday I noticed that the LED light on the DualSense changed from the typical "dark blue" to a lighter "aqua" and Steam now identifies the controller as a "PS5 Controller." So now the controller does not work at all. I had been using it successfully in AC Valhalla as well as AC Origins. But since this update was applied and it was identified as a "PS5 Controller" rather than a "Generic Gamepad" it no longer works.
Please go read the steam client update news/notes and it should outline such changes.

Might need to bring up Big Picture Mode, go to controller and reset that config so it's default for the now ID'ed PS5 Controller.

Yep, same issue here. It completely hijacks all inputs & no longer functions properly, especially outside of Steam. Completely unsuable, very very frustrated. Can't unregister either.

I solved it!

CYAN/GREEN LIGHTBAR ISSUE (Controller not working in-games, outside of steam, but within Big Picture mode, recognized as PS5 controller, just calling it Cyan/Green Lightbar Issue as that's notable) occurs:

Specific process: Start computer up. Start controller up. Steam boots, controller is hijacked. Make sure Playstation Configuration is on (My desktop config is empty but probably irrelevant). Shut down controller by holding PS button for 5-45s [widly inconsistent from my findings but irrelevant]. Start controller up again by pressing PS button. VICTORY.

This must be done upon boot-up, always, though once the configuration setting is on you can skip that, and it just becomes boot->controller cyan/green->shut off->blue & functional.
It does work but only temporarily as at some point doing some things just break. Also it doesn't work with games IN steam. To do games in steam you have to *turn off* the setting and then hard-reboot the controller & not plug it in. Then it should work with steam games.

I open up DS4 controllers and disable the lightbar, it make the battery last longer.
