1440p monitor doesnt look better than 1080p
i just bought the 27"" Acer XG270HU because i wanted 144hz and wanted higher resolution
but the thing is my previous 27"" ips 60hz 1080p monitor look almost better than my new monitor
its like if my new monitor was slightly blurry
i knew what i was getting with a tn panel but is it normal that 1440p doesnt look as good as my previous ips 1080p

though in game i can see its less pixelated but the general view is a bit more blurry than my 1080p if i compare them side by side my 1080p look sharper

already did all the window scaling and set my monitor at the right resolution and refresh rate in the control panel if someone ask me

though im not regretting my purchase going from 60hz to 144hz feel so good

(EDIT: DEC 23 2019) someone necroed this thread and i dont have that monitor anymore please do not bother replying i got a ips 2k monitor instaid and TN panel was the issue)

TN is so 2010; get a high-refresh IPS

And why didn't you just try out 1440p and 2160p first on your older 1080p Display?
You realize all 1080p Displays have that option right?

That won't even begin to look the same as a proper monitor at the higher Res....

if your going to post dumb answer just dont
If your logic was true. What would be the point of a 1440p monitor if any 1080p can do it.
Both screen are 27 ‘’. As for the fps. It doesnt matter i can reach 144 fps at 1440p maxed setting in all of my game anyway. I have sli gtx 1070

To be fair after a quick look, your most demanding games are pubg and fallout 4 vr, the rest seem to be very easy to run, and those two can't make use of sli ... So I know for a fact you aren't getting 144fps maxed out in pubg at 1440p on a single 1070.

I dont play pubg on max since lot of setting actualy give better view on enemy like view distance foliage ect all that stuff is on minimum

I use sli for some VR magic trick that actualy make use of my seconds card
And for bragging right

Plus idk why you are telling me this. The main point here is i can easy use full 1440p 144hz with my rig

No, panel type doesn't effect clarity. The difference bewteen TN and IPS is colours and viewing angles. IPS colours don't shift when viewed at an angle....

The fact you ain't seeing much difference in clarity between 1080p and 1440p is because there isn't much difference. Look at the PPI facts and this will tell you there isn't much difference between 1080p and 1440p. The real clarity jump above 1080p is 4K. A desktop 4K monitor has a 163 PPI, where a 27 inch 1440p monitor has only 109 PPI. That's a huge difference. A 27 inch 1080p monitor has 81 PPI. The gap between 1080p and 1440p isn't that much. It's even less with a 24 inch 1080p monitor which has 91 PPI.

Here's a good website about monitor specs:

https://www.displayspecifications.com/

From my understanding of the OP, it isn't that he cannot see a difference in clarity, but rather that he can and he believes that his new 1440p TN monitor looks worse than his old 1080p IPS monitor.

I dont feel IPS is quite there yet unless you buy a high end monitor. If one takes the time to read the consumer reviews most buyers are not impressed as well. HD TN has been perfected and the newer monitors are visually stunning again read consumer reviews. While newer tech can be tempting and the review sites do a good job of advertising, heck give me a free anything and I will say good things about it. The OP does not say what GPU he is trying to drive this new setup with but if you are going for 144mhz you need some serious graphics power to push it. Forums like this one have plenty of enthusiasts who can brag up newer tech but the average consumer just does not spend the money it takes to get there. So we come to the conclusion that buying a high end monitor is only half of the equation.

144mhz :gaper:

But seriously, this is about his IPS being better than his TN, not the other way around. Even though his new panel is 1440p (TN), he says it is more blurry than his 1080p monitor (IPS).

Your statement would make sense to post here, if the roles were switched, but they are not. His older lower end 60hz IPS 1080p monitor seems to look better to him than his higher end 144hz TN 1440p monitor.

The only things I can think of is that maybe one is semi-glossy and one is matte, maybe this is a case of TN vs IPS, or he's got something messed up in a setting somewhere. Hard to diagnose from afar.

igloosfolly i already said i had sli 1070,

while i can clearly see the benefit of higher res (less pixelated)
My old monition just look sharp though ingame the visual IS THE SAME EXCEPT ITS LESS PIXELATED DUE TO PIXEL DENSITY

I guess i just expected better

I find that 1440p is much uglier than 1080p for some strange reason, jaggies stand out way more and I can't explaint it. 4k is gorgous and has no faults. I'd rather play on 1080p at 144 frames a second and wait for the next gen video card that can really pull of 4k at a high frame rate than suffer the jaggie hell of 1440p

That dont make sence at all/. I bought this 1440p monitor the DELLP2416D in 2016 while until then i had a 1080p the LG22MP55 and i can confirm that all games look much better on max settings 1440p since then compared to how they looked on the 1080p . it is a 24'' 1440p 60 hz ips while the previous was a 21,5'' 1080p..

you have native 1440P monitor? there's something wrong with your system if lower pixel count looks better and has less jaggies.

Maybe you are using high sharpening setting on old monitor?
