X-Input Compatible Dualshock->USB Adapters?
Has anybody made such a thing yet?

I have one, an old one already and it works like a charm..... except it is D-Input only.

It would be pure awesomesauce if I could find one that was X-Input compatible out of the box without requiring any weird work-arounds like x360ce or motioninjoy which don't always work because of stupid stuff like games seeing both DInput and XInput and only allowing rebinding of the latter, or somecrap that developers do these days.

Anybody know of any adapters that are XInput compatible?

Just look at the Logitech controllers. They are designed like Sony DualShock, but work on PC as Xbox Compatible and have a switch for D vs X Input types.

Eh, I want the adapter, not a whole controller. Cheaper, and I can make use of controllers I already have. That, and I've had very bad luck with random controllers made by different people.

It's not cheaper. The adapter costs around 100$

Ok go try it and see how that works out for you.

If you read my original post, you'll see that I already have one of these, but it's D-input only. I was asking if anybody knew of any that supported X-input without having to use stuff like x360ce.

And it works really well, actually. Despite it being more than 10 years old.

Are you talking Dualshock 2 or Dualshock 3 or Dualshock 4?

PS2 - Dualshock 2
PS3 - Dualshock 3
PS4 - Dualshock 4

PS3 - Dualshock 3
PS4 - Dualshock 4

The one I have works on Pre-Dualshock (those first-gen PS1 controllers without thumbsticks), Dualshock 1, and Dualshock 2 controllers.

Just change your controller get rid of that old stuff that doesn't work on Windows/Linux by default. Adapters aren't going to be without their own issues of sorts. It's not a problem getting a DS3 or DS4 to work properly and able to be seen as an Xbox Controller, which is what you want, as this is what helps make it work in pretty much anything on PC

Except for, you know, the ridiculous prices of these controllers when I already have ones that work fine other than one teensy little problem that is more because of Microsoft's BS and/or game devs' laziness than anything.

I don't think adapters are categorised as D-input or X-input. They are just connectors. It's the controllers that needs to support D or X inputs algorithms.
So, only changing adapters won't give you X-input support if your controller doesn't support it.

I don't think this is the case, to be honest, because Playstation controllers (at least, before the DS3) were never made for PC at all.

The adapter acts as a sort of link between the controller and the PC, and translates the signals given from the controller to something a PC would understand.

A controller needs to send 0s and 1s in such a way that the PC would understand what exactly is being transmitted, and this would require a driver file like any device does. You could indeed code a driver file that would let you plug a PS controller directly into the PC just like the adapter does, but only run wires straight from the PS controller's data ports to a USB input... but... the adapter I have uses standard windows drivers (I don't download any special software to make this work), so that means the adapter itself must be translating the inputs from the PS controller to 0s and 1s that are compatible with standard gamepads that Windows recognizes, and it does this via DInput-compatible data (because this one that I have was made before XInput was ever a thing, DInput was still the standard back then).

The adapter itself is a small box with some circuitry inside of it (mine is partially transparent) on a small PCB. This tells me that some translation and stuff is going on inside of it to make this work with standard windows drivers to make windows see it as a standard USB compatible gamepad.

My question is, why couldn't you make an adapter that does this using XInput instead?

The cronusmax or titan can take an input from a ds3 or 4 and output as a 360 controller to a pc. They are around $60 though. Imo, you would be better of just buying an xbox controller.

The problem with buying an XBOX controller is that the thumbstick is the primary input method.

PS controllers have a D-Pad as the primary input method. If I had to reach with my thumb to an XBOX controller's Dpad for primary use, I would have tendonitis after 2 hours. I want to play platformer games with a D-Pad, not a Thumbstick.

Anyhow, I found one:

https://www.amazon.com/Gam3Gear-Converter-Controller-Keychain-PlayStation-3/dp/B01H5PCYYW

Hmmm. Was hoping for something somewhat cheaper than that. They do have $20 models but the reviews say they oftentimes break for no reason, so eh. Yeah.

Might think about a PS4 controller afterall. This is a nice idea, but it's about the same price as a PS4 controller, lol. I'll have to do more research into them.

Hmm no its you who needs to go buy what's supports. DS1/2 are not going to work. You can get the Logitech controllers rather cheap and they have Dual Shock layout and won't cost nearly as much as any SONY or MS controller.
