System Interrupts while Gaming
So, I recently discovered a weird problem while playing various games that seems to be killing my performance. Long story short: system interrupts are eating my CPU.

I monitored the CPU usage by system interrupts while playing with Windows' Resource Monitor app. So far, this is what I know:

GTA V: 2-5% normally, occasionally spikes to 30-40% and stays for a minute or so
Ring of Elysium: 20-30%
BeamNG.drive (standalone): 10-20%
Fallout 4: 10-20%
Destiny 2: <10%
Rocket League: 2-5%

Normally it only hangs around <2% when nothing much is going on. When the game closes, the system interrupt usage immediately returns to normal. It also does not happen during most simple loading screens, but will happen during things like cinematics (like the opening cinematics for RoE and Fallout 4).

Because it usually only happens during graphics-intensive parts and cinematics, I'm inclined to believe it might have something to do with my graphics driver. But I installed the latest driver (442.59 as of 3/17) via GeForce Experience and the problem persists. I also scrolled through the Device Manager and disabled two devices (PCI Serial Port and PCI Simple Communications Controller, neither of which were using any resources and weren't working at all), and I tried running RoE in compatibility mode for Windows 8, no luck though.

Any tips or advice on how to proceed with fixing this issue would be much appreciated. If you need any more information, I'll see what I can scrounge up. Thanks in advance.

Specs:
CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9550 (4-core 2.87GHz)
GPU: GT 1030 2GB GDDR5
RAM: 8GB (4x2) DDR2
HDD: WD10EZEX 1TB
MB: Optiplex 755 OEM
PSU: Seasonic S12II 520W
OS: Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

Last time I had such an issue it was faulty network adaptor driver. Update all the drivers you can. Also try LatencyMon, that thing will tell you the exact file that causes interrupts, and by the file you can narrow the issue.

could also be usb devices

try using nvidia driver only sans geforce experience.

Ok, so I tried updating the drivers to all of my plugged in USB devices, including my WiFi adapter. All of them were up-to-date, no new drivers. I also tried unplugging all USB devices (including the WiFi adapter), but no change in performance.

I also tried LatencyMon as per Snow’s recommendation. This is what it says when Ring of Elysium is running:

Your System appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates. Current measured interrupt to process latency (μs): 24489.40 Highest measured interrupt to process latency (μs): 54020.50 Highest reported ISR routine execution time (μs): 52971.690021 (dxgkrnl.sys - DirectX Graphics Kernel, Microsoft Corporstion) Highest reported DPC routine execution time (μs): 54717.231069 (nvlddmkm.sys - NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 442.59 , NVIDIA Corporation) Reported total hard pagefault count: 111

If I’m reading this right, it looks like it might actually be an issue with my graphics drivers? I haven’t reinstalled the NVIDIA driver without GeForce Experience yet, but that is next on my to-do list. I also tested LatencyMon without any other apps running. Same warning, but it also shows this sometimes:

Highest reported ISR routine execution time (μs): 35735.567233 (HDAudBus.sys - High Definition Audio Bus Driver, Microsoft Corporation) Highest reported DPC routine execution time (μs): 29891.567233 (USBPORT.SYS - USB 1.2 _2.0 Port Driver, Microsoft Corporation)

Here it looks like I might have a few other driver issues. Both of these I can get to show up by literally just highlighting icons on the desktop.

Edit: Just reinstalled the GeForce driver without GeForce Experience. Unfortunately, that didn’t fix the problem. Also, it might be worth noting that the Steam app also suffers slightly (around 10%, spikes to 20%).

Thoughts?
