not computer savy :(
I was going to see if anyone would be able to suggest how i could get the lag in game to stop....but I am pretty sure I'm not even able to intelligently describe my system in order to get that help lol

First, what game?
Second, if you don't know the specs of your computer, go into the Steam client, click help, then System Information. Let Steam collect the basic information about your computer and copy it into this thread.

The game doesn't have minimum specs listed, but your computer might be a little underpowered for gaming. That is assuming by lag you mean choppy gameplay, and not actual network lag in game. I'd be curious to see what your frame rate is in game.

If you go to Steam > Settings > In-Game
Then find "in game FPS counter" and turn it on to top left or top right (whichever you prefer)

Then play some of the game and let us know what that number was showing on average, and if it went way low when you got choppy gameplay. If that number is fine the whole time then I think we're looking at network lag instead.

If that number is low, like below 30, you should try to adjust the in game graphic settings down lower until that number comes up and the game looks smoother.

Intel Atom, 4GB of RAM, Windows 10 32bit.

This is a very basic netbook. It can browser the internet, I wouldn't even attempt to game on it.

I am suprised that it is struggling with Brawlhalla through, it's not exactly a demanding game. Must be the lack of RAM.

There is sadly nothing you can really do here, this laptop is simply not powerful enough to do any gaming.

I had an old Toshiba NB-505 netbook from a while back, and it could game some indi games, especially ones that don't rely on fast gameplay like FTL or some other like hacking puzzle games. But yea, other than that gaming on it was a struggle.

ya'll are correct on the computer being very basic, i originally did not purchase it for gaming, its honestly just one of the Intel Compute Sticks lol, ya know kinda like those streaming usb dongles like Amazon Fire or Roku Sticks, only its a computer. And i also don't know the correct terminology for what its doing, whether lag or not, I assume its lag because i can literally punch in the keyboard and mouse buttons to fight in the game and my fighter will still be acting on those commands for about 3 seconds after i stop touching the keyboard entirely. I do not know much about computer tech, accept that it is expensive, and unfortunately i can only afford what i have now so I am trying to still have fun on it and Brawlhalla is one of my favorite Playstation games. (Playstation is of course where i originally began playing this game, but at the end of a relationship he kept this) I was super excited to find that it was available on a PC through Steam, and it has been challenging to relearn the command keys when i learned on a Playstation controller originally, lol!!

I did find something online that suggested my Firewall could be the problem, I assumed this could be one of the problems based on the complete loss of internet connection and after troubleshoot of internet there is always a explanation that the gateway was not available or a driver was missing. I have gone in an reset my firewall to allow communication in and out with Steam, and hope that atleast that will be fixed...but from what yall say it sounds like the lag or choppy gameplay is something i will have to deal with until i can afford an actual gaming computer :(

Thank you for the information and suggestions on the issue tho, and I will still set up for the FPS counter and post that so we can see what that looks like. thank you again

Yea it's kinda two different pathways to troubleshoot hardware being slow vs troubleshoot network problems is why I asked. Do your issues happen on any other games? Fortunately for you in the PC world there is a massive treasure trove of good games that you should be able to handle even with basic hardware. Lots of indie games have very basic graphics and are still very fun.

I played one game just now and the FPS is hanging anywhere from 27 to 31 for the most part. of course im trying to play and watch the counter lol so i may not be right on ;) my daughter does use the computer for Roblox....that is the game that we actually lose the internet connection entirely and i hafta troubleshoot the issue. other than her playing that, I just play Brawlhalla, that is really the only one I'm into right now...i have never been into PC gaming, always have played on consoles, so it is all new to me, i just started a week ago on here lol so im a noob for sure ;)

Based on the computer specifications that you shared earlier the only solution is literally to buy a computer with better specifications than your current one. Your performance can't be improved any further than what you're getting currently because your hardware is extremely underpowered.

I agree, I will just have to deal with it for now until i can get a new system, I appreciate the help.

The only other option is kinda a scorched earth approach but it worked on my old netbook, is I installed Lubuntu (a super lightweight version of linux) because Windows 7 was just too bloated for that little machine. It ran much better in daily tasks like web browsing and watching youtube and such, and gaming performance was better too because it had a less bloated OS to run in the background.

But that's a big leap to get into a totally new OS, even though linux has come a long way and is very usable for regular stuff as well as gaming these days.

I wanted to suggest the same, but the issue is that Brawlhalla is a hit or miss with Steam Play, it either runs awesome or it runs with input lag and horrible performance.

And Roblox I believe doesn't run at all.
SalTiEcOOkie Mar 23, 2019 @ 2:22pm
i have a Chromebook also which i launched into developer mode and installed linux then used chronos shell commands to install steam, it worked out great, only problem is Brawlhalla nor Roblox are compatible with linux os systems :( .......but on a positive note i did teach myself how to run codes and some other computer techy things i never thought i could learn. With alot of help of course with online tutorials that is, lol.
But if it helps anyone that wants to know if Steam can be installed on a Chromebook and run well, the answer is yes, it does....and you dont have to be a genius to figure out how to do it :steamhappy:

you are correct regarding both of course, lol. luckily for my daughter Roblox is able to run on phones, tablets, and pretty much everything else...not so lucky for me and Brawlhalla...which may be a blessing to my wallet tho bc if it were able to i may be way more broke than i already am hahaha

Well hey if that works you could try using WINE. It's basically a compatibility layer between a windows program (a game in this case) and linux. You'd have to download the windows version of steam and run it with WINE if I remember right, but a lot of games will work right out of the box really well with WINE, especially the ones that aren't as 3D intensive. I remember doing it a few years ago and Civ 5 worked great with almost no tinkering. I think WINE keeps a list of games and how well they work and how much tinkering is needed for each one.

And don't think because you had to look some of that stuff up that it takes away from what you were able to do, even pros who code for a living look stuff up. No one knows everything. And so you're basically a hacker now.
