First two ram slots not working on motherboard
I've just built a new PC with an Asus Z370-A Prime motherboard and I'm unable to get the RAM to work in the first two slots (DIMM_B1 and DIMM_B2).

If I put one RAM module in either of these first two slots and turn on the PC get I no output to the screen and the orange/yellow light appears next to DIMM on the motherboard indicating a memory problem. If I move the RAM module to either of the last two slots (DIMM_A1 and DIMM_A2) then it works fine. I have 2x8GB and I am able to install them in the 3rd and 4th slots but they will not be running in dual channel that way.

The RAM I am using is Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black, PC4-19200 (2400).

I have tried it with and without XMP. I have tried lowering the speed to 2133Mhz, and I have tried pressing the button next to the error light to detect the best settings for the memory. Besides this the PC works fine and I'm using it now as I type.

See if there would be a new BIOS available for the board, could be just an issue with it.
If not, there could be some bent pins in your socket causing those to not work.

Or the motherboard is faulty out of the box.

Refer to your manual. It clearly shows the proper installation of a pair of RAM, which would be slots B2 and A2. You'll notice too that the slots are colored in matching pairs.

If you check your manual, you'll probably see that you should be using slots A2 & B2.

I have checked the manual and they are definitely installed to the correct slots, I've actually tried every combination of slots. They should still work in any slot though really, just not in dual channel

I've done some research into this and you may be onto something. I took out the CPU and checked the pins, it's hard to tell but I think one of them may be bent. Here's some photos I took:

Those seem all good. But I guess the 2nd one from the left seems a bit squished down, So it might not get a proper contact.

Are you sure? When I look at other pictures of the socket that I found on google they have a pin in the area I marked where it's missing on mine:

Oh true. It doesn't seem like it has snapped either, more like it's been missing from the start.
Having not been installed in the socket at all.

Of course it's policy that any pin related problem is automaticially the customers fault and therefore ASUS will not RMA it leaving me the choice of buying a new board or living with in in single chanel and hoping that nothing else is wrong.

Pretty much. Although....you could lie a bit. Show those pictures, saying that you were taking the motherboard out of the box to check it and found that flaw.

Googling the picture of the socket and seeing there should be a pin there.

Yes because all Intel motherboards are triple checked 3 times by staff at the factory before leaving the factory (Gigabyte has published videos of how their boards are made in their factories on youtube to show this, I can just assume MSI and everyone else does similar at their facilities) and they ship with a protective plastic cover. If any pins get bent then it's 100% entirely your fault for removing the cover incorrectly. Also most vendors (Newegg, etc) won't accept refunds for this because the only possible way it could ever happen is being installed wrong.

Even with that checking, the quality control, especially for lower end boards, can have bad ones get through.
Asus's quality control has also been not so great on the current gen components.

Are you a PC Technician?

No, I'm a software engineer.

I wasn't saying that it's not my fault as it could well have been. I don't see how I could have bent one pin right in the middle though it seems really weird.

Not only that, but have it completely missing. Like, there doesn't even seem to be any broken off part of it left. At least not showing on the pictures you took.
