Can my new PC run TF2 on highest settings?
So I'm getting a new PC and it's specs are: Intel Core i5-8250U (3.4GHz), NVIDIA GeForce MX150, 2gb GDDR5 VRAM, 1080p display, 8Gb RAM and a 256gb SSD, could it run TF2 at max settings and resolution? Thanks.

Probably not, this is a simple laptop and not a gaming machine.
Seem like MX150 is just about the GT 1030 so I guess you'll be fine.
But why not check before you get a computer? =P
1127 (1177) gflops.
The GT 1030:
942 (1127) gflops.

Your CPU have 4 cores, 8 threads, 1.6 GHz base, 3.4 GHz turbo so pretty decent.

Can't imagine it's too weak.

~105 fps in ultra.

Why not? Isn't the graphics card powerful enough? Also it's i5 8th generation which comes close to an i7 from 7th generation which could easily play TF2 right? Also 8gb of ram

how the ♥♥♥♥ does a laptop come with a cpu overclocked to the max. Other than that, if it really is 3.4ghz on all 4 it should do fine provided you do this http://reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/42f0x1/try_this_to_improve_your_fps_for_multicore_pcs/

Oh yeah sorry I didn't specify, it comes with like 1.4GHz but can go up to that.

That is the max boost clock..

It's a laptop GPU for high-def video and productivity work, not gaming. Sure it will game just fine but don't expect too much.

This is a laptop CPU, not a desktop one. The last gen laptop i7 CPUs are pretty terrible compared to their desktop counterparts.

No, this GPU alone is dedicated for gaming, there's other GPU by Intel that comes with the 8th gen processor that dedicates to productivity and general laptop use.

no, a computer cant magically switch between dGpu and igpu. If a laptop has a dgpu it is forced to use it.

That is incorrect. This GPU is not made for gaming, it's just there to give you a small boost over the I-GPUs performance when you need it. People use their machines for more then just gaming..

But like I said, TF2 will run just fine on this card.

Incorrect. Your average mid-range laptop will have both an Intel HD and a Nvidia/AMD GPU (Most commonly Nvidia) and is able to switch workloads between those two when required.

They are most commonly connected like this:

The Nvidia GPU is by default enabled whenever it's required and disabled otherwise to save power.

It's not. The top value is single core of course. I tried to find the all core turbo clock but no success so far:
"The CPU maintains high Turbo speeds for a short while, which is corroborated with a package TDP of 25 W or higher, but after a few seconds it drops to the standard 15 W TDP and the frequencies drop to 2.2 – 2.3 GHz."

But quad core 2.2 should still play TF2. I don't know how well.

"That means that if you need the best option for multi-core performance, the 45 W Core i7 HQs are still the ones to get right now, but the i5-8250U is there next to the i5-7300HQ in most cases, while requiring a third of the power."

Feel free to find one with i7 and maybe one step up in graphics too if you want something higher but that of course cost more.
I7 + mx 150:

GTX 1050 is the next tier.

I'm using a i5 4690k OC @ 4.5 Ghz, GTX 1070, and 24 gigs of ram, a even I get FPS drops to 70-80 on swiftwater and open maps in busy servers.

Short response, probably not too well.
Maybe not max settings, but on medium 60fps should be capable.

Yeah but your processor is 4th gen, mine is 8th gen
