Is this level of backlight bleed acceptable?
I returned my first AOC AG271QG IPS monitor because of bright pixels and backlight bleed. I've just received a second today and sure enough... backlight bleed. However, I can't see any dead or bright pixels on this one so that's an improvement.

Here's some photos I took just now of the backlight bleed:

Here's an image at 100% brightness.[i64.tinypic.com]
And here's one at 50% brightness.[i65.tinypic.com]
And finally here's one at 0% brightness.[i66.tinypic.com]

Is the above bleed normal for this panel? This one is no different to the first unit I tried (both manufactured in February 2018 but bought from different retailers).

Is this a worthy trade off to make or should I go just give up and go with the Dell S2417DG TN monitor?

thats very bad backlight bleed. i have an ips monitor as well but it has minimal bleed in the bottom left. but all 4 corners like that is very bad.

the thing is backlight bleed is almost impossible to eliminate due to nature of the technology of ips displays..soo a little backlight bleed is always expected.

Worthy of sending back in your opinion?
that is definitely something i wouldnt deal with.

I just recently purchased a new Vizio LED 32" 1080p Smart TV (as a monitor) to replace its older brother that ive had for 6 years or so. LOVINNNN ITTTT

But yeah, id def send that back and get something else
whether or not its supposed to be like that, i sure couldnt take it having that effect.

Would it maybe lessen after its been used for some time?

That's what I'm wondering as well. But I only have a limited time to return it.

The camera does exaggerate slightly but that's with the monitor set to 50% brightness.

yes definitely worthy of sending back. aoc has from what i can tell a 1 year manufacturer warranty.

However you may have some kind of extra warranty from the store you purchased it from and I would take full use of that extra warranty (if applicable) and see if you can do a 1:1 replacement.

If they can, ask them to unpack the monitor at their store and check for backlight bleed before taking it home again.

If you can't do a 1:1 replacement. Then ask for a refund.

For budget monitors I've had very good luck with BenQ TN and MVA, I have a dell ultrasharp ips it's ok but nothing to write home about.
That's a question you'll have to answer for yourself. Do you find it acceptable?

In daylight lit room yes, at nighttime even with the room lit it becomes very noticeable. I fired up Metro 2033 last night at could still see bleed in the corners at 25% brightness.

Thanks, it's actually 3 year warranty with AOC. I have 14 days from yesterday to return it.

The thing is that this is the 1:1 replacement! This is the second one I've tried because the first had the same issue.
That's terrible. Replace it ASAP.

oh thats pretty bad. i took this from the aoc website:

Envision Peripherals, Inc. (“EPI”) warrants this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of three (3) years, except one (1) year for LED panel, after the original date of consumer purchase.

so i think the panel you have only has a year warranty. i could be wrong.

Thanks but it's 3 years in Europe (I live in the UK). But that's kind of irrelevant to my current situation as I don't need to claim though warranty as I can return for full refund within 14 days of purchase (mandated by EU consumer law).

This is the second unit I've tried and I'm not going to bother trying for a third one. My patience has ran out.

If this one goes back I'm going to go for an alternative model (Dell S2417DG).

I just don't know which is the lesser of the two evils: TN image quality or IPS backlight bleed?

some people who lives in primitive countries like mine have no nerves to sending back IPS monitor due to slow and high shipping costs . If you live in normal country, try your luck little bit more . It cost me £45 ($61) to send the first one back so safe to say that I live in a primitive country! I hope I won't have to pay this time around as this one was bought from Amazon instead and their return policy is quite good usually.

Trouble is, Amazon have completely ran out of stock of this monitor. I can only choose an option to refund in their return centre, there's no option to send me a replacement. And after the experience of dealing with the return policy of the first retailer I don't trust anyone but Amazon in that regard.

So you definitely think it should be returned?
