Is TLC NVMe ssd good enough for gaming
Have no idea what they mean, just seen a lot of speculation around them in reviews and such and want to know if the tlc ssd I’m looking at is good enough (don’t give a crap about sata ssds I have a M.2 and I’m going to use it)

Anything over 1500mbps, ie the slowest nvme drives, you won't notice it in games at all. There is a clear difference between hdd and sata ssd loading times. There is a marginal difference between sata ssd vs nvme. There is practically no difference after that. You only buy an expensive nvme drive like samsung for gaming because you want the extended warranty and trusted brand.

If anything, you'll be better off with a better cpu with a larger L3 cache.

EVO is pointless for gaming, you don't need those petabytes of write capability in consumer drives.

yea i know what you mean.. my m.2 slots remain empty because i'd rather spend the money on hardware that will make a difference. i'm happy with my 850 evo

then also know that M.2 is just a port for SATA and NVMe (PCI-E 3.0 x4). If you want to "just" fill it you could even do it with a normal SATA M.2-2280.
NVMe for msot ppl wont make a real difference. Most stuff is within less then 1s improvement. However the Intel 660p can be bought for dirt cheap
i am fully aware that m.2 is just a port.. i had my 850 evo long before i had a motherboard that supported the m.2 drives. my particular case has a mount for 2.5 inch drives which is visible and would look crappy without being used. an unused m.2 slot is not noticeable and since i don't need more than a half terabyte of storage i remain on the the 850 evo for the foreseeable future
Games stored in SSD's are the shizznizzle! Recently built a gaming rig, I'd gotten a 256GB Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 drive for OS, but wanted speedy load times for some of my fave games. Couldn't find anything bigger than 2TB for NVMe M.2, but managed to get a 4TB Samsung 860 EVO and a 2TB 860 QVO, and for games that I do play occasionally, a 6TB WD Black HDD. For Metro, the game level would load even before Artyom can finish his monologue.....love that!
Games are optimized for slow console drives, so any ssd is going to perform faster, but they will not have much difference between them.
