Morale of the story, test all memory slots when you buy your mobo.
DDR3 single vs dual:
https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/1349-ram-how-dual-channel-works-vs-single-channel/Page-3
https://beebom.com/single-channel-vs-dual-channel-memory/
Now, what come to tests - they're full of ♥♥♥♥. They ran memory at 2400MHz, no wonder it didn't show that much of a difference. Typical DDR3 user runs it at 1333/1600MHz, and the performance difference is just as significant as with DDR4.
Everyone else: "Just get dual channel 2x4GB now, you can add another 2x4GB later."
Buy that and be done with ever adding ram to that PC.
If you are a pro needs user then obviously you should increase your budget and save up more so you can go with 2x16gb minimum if your work apps benefit from having alot of ram.
Some games beneifit as much as 5 fps from 3000 to 3600mhz excepct better in cpu heavy apps
But it won't make much difference on a 3600 or 3700X, especially if that buyer is trying to keep costs down a bit if possible.
Except it does i can get measurable differences on my 3700x going from 3000 to 3466 people spending $350+ on a cpu arent sweating $50 more for ram i know because im one of them
It's not really necessary to spend more on the best RAM you can get unless you have the budget, in which case you'd have a Ryzen 9. 3200 CL14 Flare X is pretty affordable and enough for most, and it can overclock pretty nicely on a good board.
