Engine Error: shader model 3.0
Hello All,

Im trying to play "cs go" but on startup I am geting the following message:

"your graphics hardware must support at least shader model 3.0 to run this game"

I have a Intel(R) Q33 Express Chipset Family, as a graphics unit. And my pc is running on windows 10, with directX 11 running on it.

Snooping around I managed to find that CS Go runs on DirectX9c and my graphics unit can support Direct9.

So my problem is as follows: how can I downgrade my directx11 to 9, and play?

Any tips?

cheers!! :steamhappy:

So you are trying to play on a onboard GPU? Even if it would start it would run unplayable.

Get a graphics card.

so no work around... (?) what would be a affordable graphics card ?

Of course u can't just do some sort of work around, you don't meet the minimum requirements, simple as that. Your Intel GPU is much too old (it pre-dates even Win7 OS release date) to support DX10/11; the OS supports up to DX12, however your GPU has to support the DX that a game requires as well.

Get a GTX 1050 2GB or better as well as more system RAM.

Install CPU-Z and do a Validate > Submit, then paste the weblink it loads up, into a post here so we can see your current specs better, such as Motherboard.

Intel Q33 is from the Vista era but supports DirectX 10+ and Shader 3.0. It most likely doesn't run because Windows 8.0 and later don't recognize it. Install the Win7 legacy drivers to enable full 3D support.

Either way it won't be able to run smoothly. To avoid bottlenecking I suggest getting the GeForce GT 1030.

Wrong. Even the GeForce 6200 from 2004 can start this game since it supports DirectX 9+ and Shader 3.0.

None this has anything to do with OPs GPU; Intel GMA is unsupported by even most DX9 games, simple as that.

But yes that is also another reason; Win8.1/10 have no 3D Render capable driver for Intel GMA, it's not a supported GPU under such OS'

If you don't have a driver for the native OS you can always enable full functionality just by installing a driver for an older OS version.

Intel GMA was never designed for gaming but I remember even a netbook GMA could start up common DX9 games as long as you had the drivers installed.

What OP needs to do is just install Win7 and leave it on that. It's not a system that's even good enough for Win8/10
